Anyone stockpiling for the apocalypse?

Do you stock goods for an unfortunate event of natural disaster, invasion, zombie rule, global apocalypse, or other such unfortunate situations?

Water? Canned goods? Weapons/ammo? Radio? Navigation tools? Stuff?

During hurricane season, we keep enough to live in the house sans electricity for about a week. Since last time, I've started keeping a minimum of 10 gallons of gas in the garage at all times and there's now an axe in the attic. Oddly, the kind of disaster that calls for these supplies won't find me at home when it hits.

Nah, I figure I can steal all that stuff if need be under such circumstances. I do, however, stock up on plenty of porn, beer, and peanut butter.

I plan on it. My old boss is by far the most successful and smartest person I have ever met, hands down. He moved here to start a self contained farm for when something big goes down, he knows it will eventually. He moved here a year ago because he knew PEI would have the easiest time going back to the old way of life easier than anywhere else in North America. He has a farm near the water, plans on heating his house with geothermal (self sustained), plans on using a design that provides full electricity from magnetism in the air (self sustained), has a large water still for fresh water and booze for barter. Is a millwright by trade, owned construction companies, worked as a machinist, knows a lot of martial arts, can pick up 350lbs over his head. He's got guns and ammo stocked up. He's absolutely ready. I'm absolutely jealous as hell. Even if nothing happens, at least he can feel safe and know that at the drop of a hat he's laughing.

You're taking it too literally. I read the "natural disaster" part and ran with it.

Well during a typical "disaster", which is the way I read it as well growing up around Hurricanes and such, everybody leaves anyway. So with the wind and flooding, no, one would not need a gun to loot a store.

If it were a true apocalypse (ie, whole world goes to ****), I think I'd rather just die. The concept of staying in a bomb shelter or some type of bunker for months/years/decades doesn't sound to appealing. Especially if you got outside to see that the world had just turned into a baron wasteland.

If it's just a natural disaster... well I guess I'm screwed, I have no plans or stockpiles.

You might be surprised how quickly supplies will run out with people thinking like you around. Just-in-time inventories mean what's on the shelf is all they have, for the most part. Grocery stores don't have stockrooms.

I have extra food in case of a tornado or snow-in. My family has a good generator, and we have well water so we can get water with no electricity. If everyone turns into a zombie, I have enough ammo to exterminate every undead person within a 10 mile radius. Maybe 20, if you count .22LR.



I have handheld comm radios and GPS's that I use for hunting.

Ok, so what do you have lined up?

I am in the middle of becoming a machinist, trying to build my own whiskey still for bartering and buy a nice 50 gallon a day water still, and hoping to build my own house as close to my old bosses as possible haha. It's hard because I'm only 20, but I know that other people my age have a lot more work done. I live in an area where if everything went down the drain, the people with booze will never have a thing to worry about. We have the highest liquor prices in North America, and also the most liquor stores per capita. No matter what is going on, everyone is getting drunk. When a 120lb kid can drink a 40 of rum and not pass out, and it's not that unusual, you know you live in PEI. My family were the rum runners in the great depression, so it's in my blood.
