Anyone tell me about Samick?

I'll probably part out my jp90. Gonna sand it down and fix the dents/cracks and sell the unfinished body and all of the other pieces separately.
Ive put it on layaway! $65 more and it's mine!
On another note, my rep from Waterstone told me the lulu's are on sale for $389. HELL OF A DEAL! gonna get one in a few weeks!

I bought a samick yesterday. made in korea. bought in the states. sold cheap i the philippines. sounds good feels good
My first ever bass was a Samick.
It was sleek looking, PJ passive. Electronics busted a week after I got it (it was brand new).
Not sad about giving it away.

I had a Samick/Greg Bennett (semi-hollow) RLB4. I sold it to a TB'er.
I wish I had it back, it was a great bass.

Samick, the company, is capable of making very good instruments. Like anybody, at different price points, you get different levels of fit and finish, but I'd be a little more comfortable with a mystery Samick than a mystery no-name. One place I think corners may have been cut was on electronic components, but pots, switches and jacks are pretty easy to replace and not very expensive, if they are a problem at all. I would never pass up an instrument with a neck I liked because it had scratchy pots or a bad jack.
Most used Korean guitars I've seen have been incredible bargains. I don't think public perception has caught up to the quality of many of those instruments.

I'm currently working with another bassist who's going to be my stunt double. His bass is the first Samick I've ever actually seen up close and personal. It looks to be mahogany, with a super high gloss finish, gold hardware, active electronics..... It sounds fantastic too! I thought it was some sort of high end boutique type of bass until I did a little googling. I don't know what vintage it is, and I didn't see anything similar to it on the Samick website, but it's a nice bass IMHO.

I traded a Bently for a Samick made P bass.
They put the name Abilene on it. It is just
like the old Samick LB11 bass guitar, I think.
Agathis body, bolt on maple neck, rosewood
fretboard, 20 frets, 34” scale, 1 split P pickup,
1 volume, 1 tone, chrome die-cast tuners and
standard bridge.
It had a cheep pickup in it. The G string was
really dead,
I put just an old Squire split pole pup in it, and
it is now my THUD PLUCKER
It is deep. Some would say muddy. But I love it.
String zing is almost non-existent, even with the
treble turned all the way up and the strings set
supper low. The D and G strings have an even
out put and are smooth sounding.
I had a mahogany thumb rest and replaced the
hollow plastic thumb rest,
I didn't like the point on the head stock, so I
rounded it off,
I really like it.
It's a neat bass to mod. I didn't have to spend a
penny on it and I only have $30 invested in it,

I have the 5-string version of this, and it too was my first ever bass. Last year I upgraded the electronics and pickups to EMG... the thing never sounded so good!
