Anyone tried the Line6 kb37?

I guess most of you know about Line6's TonePort/GuitarPort series
and some of you know that they've released a knew product in this
line. Lately I've been interested in buying one of their TonePorts,
but I don't know which. It's either the UX2 or the new one, KB37.
The knew one is a MIDI-keyboard as well, which seems really smart
and useful as I do know myself around a piano. Now does anyone
own the KB37 and can tell if they have cut back on something vital
to make room for the keyboard? I know it has one less bass/guitar
input, but that doesn't bother me too much, since it still has two
mic-inputs.

And how many of you use Gearbox, and how do you like it? And
what recording program do you recommend? I know the basics in
Cubase and I don't own a Mac, so Logic or GarageBand isn't an
alternative. Never tried Pro-Tools, but I've heard good things
about it and have heard good things come out from it. But don't
you have to buy some DigiDesign hardware to use Pro-Tools?

Any helpful comments are welcome!

I recently got the ux2 (my first venture into home recording). I played around with it for about a week before I learned about the capabiltity to run two seperate amps at once. This changed it into a whole new animal and it's the only way I use it now. I have spent many hours just seeing what different combinations sound like. To my ears, the amp sims are pretty warm and convincing. I can get dang close to my current favorite guitar tone, the new Sworn Enemy album. For bass, I run two SVT's with two different mics to get really convincing rock/metal tones. I prefer the UX2 to my Sansamp right now for tracking direct.

The Ableton software is useless though. I use Audition, but if you want something that's free try Reaper.

All in all, well worth the $150 outlay IMO.

Split the signal (I'm using the 1/4" and XLR outs on my RBI)coming from your instrument. Plug into the 1/4" AND mic 1 inputs. Select Inst & Mic 1 in source select (top left of Gearbox). To the left of the preset name you'll now see a little guitar symbol and a little mic symbol. Select each of these to set the preset for each input. You can still use bass and guitar amps on the mic side, you just don't get a tuner.

Oh, nifty! I'll just have to get my D.I. box from our "studio".

I'm curious about this too. I have the UX2 and from what I'm gathering the keyboard on the KB37 is just a midi controller, it doesn't have any actually sounds (I think). I chatted with a guy at zzounds.com and this is how that went:

Yeah, I gathered that the keyboard was just a midi-controller, so my first post was more about GearBox, but I didn't really know what I wanted to know back then. :P

Well, I'm quite happy with the UX2, although I thought that it would work as an actual USB-sound card, sending the stuff through my speakers connected to my comp. But that hasn't been a biggie, I just use headphones...

You can totally use it as your computer's soundcard! I have my audio settings set for the Line6 and use the audio outs on the toneport to go into my amp and monitors, you just have to route the pc to use the tp as you audio out. If you need more help let me know, it's really a lot easier to send everything through the tone port.

I have Gearbox Gold and I run it using Guitarport. I also use a Tapco Blend6 mixer to hookup two KRK Rokit 8's. I use Riffworks for recording ideas. I still haven't figured out how to use Gearbox with Riffworks yet. Haven't really tried too hard though.

I generally play through this setup when I'm at home. :)
