Anyone use the old Sadowsky black label strings?

If you used these and liked them, did you find anything similar?

Sadowsky is out of the string business?.....wow. What sharp, sudden, discomfort in the gluteus maximus. expletive deleted.

up until a few minutes ago, I used about 3-4 boxes a year of those things.
Just what I need another $500 string hunt buying strings for one gig only to get ripped off in favor of the next candidate.

3-4 boxes a year? Wow. I long ago gave up chasing my idea that perfect tone was brought about by changing strings every 2-4 weeks. In the mix, the difference to audiences (at least my audiences lol) was not sufficiently discernible to justify the chase.

Yeah..I'm not real happy about the cost. I work a bunch and run two basses...a lot of outside, sweat soaked Florida work that will kill a brand new set of strings as soon as that sweat dries. If I was trying to shove bass notes past humbuckers and distortion pedals I wouldn't care either and I don't for the one gig I have like that. I have 3 other gigs that are smaller, quieter, acoustic-y gigs that actually have the sonic space for actual bass tone and guys that leave me space in the mix and have big ears. I'm luckier than most in my work. Much luckier

I used to use the Sad black nickels as well as the steels and found the nickels to be fine, ok, whatever. Not any better than many other nickel strings. Somewhat lower mids than other nickels IMO. In my experience owning about 9 Sadowsky basses and trying nearly all their strings, that is the general sound that Sadowsky basses are reaching for. My consistently favorite nickel rounds have been DR lo-riders. They last a long time and to me, accentuate the specific frequencies that sit in the mix just right for me. I use P-type basses mostly, so that might impact my choices most. Anymore, a major factor to me in choosing strings is whether or not they have tuner end silks. Hate that.

Something about those Sadowskys just hit my sweet spot. I switched to the D'Addario nickles, though I tried the DR and I can see why people like them. And yeah, I'd prefer not to have the end silk as well.
