I agree. I use 'verb and delay on bass sometimes the mixing in the studio, but live in the bass signal chain usually just results in a mess. Unless there's a FOH guy handling mixing it.

In 2004 I got an EHX Deluxe Memory Man. Nothing else comes close to me. So easy to dial in and not a 1-trick pony.
Or you can go crazy and get an A+ Astronaut pedal from Shift Line, that's one of the craziest reverb pedals I've ever seen, it can go from the standard plate, room and spring reverbs to really crazy and psychedelic stuff like shimmer up reverb, it does even has secret features.
My guitarrist got one recently and as you can see on the demo video it works perfectly on bass too, I want one of those so badly.

I use reverb/delay pedal. Nice for clean sounds and high register playing. Gets lost in the low end, chorus is better down there in my opinion. I use a boss model but have always been curious on the hof from TC.
I have an EHX Canyon. It also does reverb, octave, that shimmer thing… all those + delay, but you can turn the delay time to zero. Oh yeah, and it’s got a looper too. So I guess I’m using it like some sort of multi effect. I sometimes use it for Pink Floyd-esque parts, I like to slap with a bit of delay sometimes and for some solo fretless stuff. I really don’t use it much and it might migrate to the guitar pedalboard at some point.
I normally don't care for tap tempo, but delay is one of the few instances where I feel it's necessary, for this reason. Set your own tempo
I think that’s a baritone guitar, old school “tic-tac bass.” The actual bass comes in later.
You can kind of create reverb with delay……according to Scot’s bass lessons, he uses delay on a real mild setting that sounds similar.
Besides the rhythmic bass with delay on One Of These Days, Pink Floyd, an interesting use of bass with delay makes that 80s dance pop rhythm. Here, at 10:15. Weird:
Fwiw, I'm using an EQD Afterneath as a delay. Yeah it's a reverb pedal, but when you have the Drag, Diffuse, and Reflect controls near 9 o'clock or so, you have a beautiful atmospheric delay.
I'm a big fan of the Way Huge Echo Puss as well. It's like a Carbon Copy with all the controls on top, plus a tone control. I love how the repeats get out of the way and create a nice pad beneath the main notes. Also pushing the feedback doesn't get into oscillation so you can really play with larger, more dense sounds.

It could be a Bass VI played with a pick through a spring reverb. There's a particular higher percussive element to the decay that you really only get with a spring reverb.
I use delay for very occasional, highly specific things, where I am not likely to mess with the mix. Typically in a dub sort of thing, I have a glitched out delay, which can be used to accentuate the final note of a little passage in a super fun, atmospheric way. And I can utilize it in the psychedelic/electronic jam band trio, since there's so much room for noise making.
But delay isn't an effect that sees much regular use for me. Total niche-moment kind of thing!

Live and in-studio I use a Boss DD-5 in tap tempo mode 8, which is default 300ms. I set the repeats and effect down fairly low. Also use a Boss RV-6 reverb for a little spring sting, again mixed way low. Really makes a big sound, I can tell a huge difference when I turn them off.
It’s not so much the tempo but the delay itself…it confuses me as well as the band. I hear it and I start to lose track of the beat.
That's what I though at first too, with a very fast splapback rate of 1 or 2 echos *AND* a bit of spring reverb (the standard bass line comes line comes with the vocals), but it sounds like a a single instrument w/ delay/reverb in the intro. It can be done on bass as well... just tried it w/ flats & a pick, sounded the most like the intro w/ the lows cut & with 1-2 fast repeats and then spring reverb post delay.
Here they do use bass and an acoustic E2 guitar in sync (Eric Howk on gt? i.e. not the main vocalist) with more delay and reverb... :

Imho, for just slapback delay, most pedals will get the job done for this (just never repeat that on a rockabilly forum, small wars break out there concerning real echoplex tape delays, Boss DM-2s, and modern rather expensive stuff from strymon or dunlop). Most will do for bass for thickening up the sound or adding a bit of attack - unless you are doing surreal ambient stuff.
Spring reverb (similar wars for this are available in the surf circles with Standalone Tank vs. built in Amp tanks, vs pedals etc.. ), as long as you are not using it for E2 surf guitar or ambient music, for bass the new Fender Tre-Verb pedal is nice (also with 3 types of "Fender Tremolo" aka Vibrato), but a bit pricey for only bass use, or even an old used lowly Boss FRV-1 '63 Fender Reverb pedal will also get the job done and sound good for a bit of spring reverb only.

I haven't used delay in a long time, but when I played in original bands, several tracks had bass intros above the 12th fret, and I often used delay on those. I don't think I ever used it during the body of a track when the whole band was going.
BTW, I used a Boss DD-2 from 1986. I still have it, but it doesn't always work, so I recently got a DD-7 for use with guitar.

No, it's hard enough to keep up with fast punk rock. So any delay would make it impossible.
Do you play with OD? If you have a delay pedal and also a pick lying around (use a pick corner not meant for the strings), try it w/ a really fast splapback with 1 maybe 2 repeats & fast decay/echo and keep the wet signal lower, palm muting if you like.
I don't use it often, but some people like that effect a lot. If you can dial it in right, adds punch & fatness w/ OD.
