Anyone using delay pedals?

I'd like to be able to achieve the effect heard in the link below. Every delay pedal is demoes towards guitars, so I can't find any demos that help me find this particular dramatic, but limited effect.



Looking at Sweetwater, ironically, the cheaper pedals seemed like they might be best.

I'm not a huge Berringer fan and I'm always a little worried about relatively super gear. But this seemed like it might get me there. But this would be a one trick pony, which I'm not a big fan of.


Dunlop EP103 Echoplex Delay Pedal
The Dunlop also felt like maybe it can go where I want, and I like the possibility of using some of the dirt settings. I just couldn't find a demo that made the sale for me.

I couldn't possibly go through every one of their demos - especially after the consistent lack of good ones, but these two seemed like candidates.

Any feedback on these or perhaps a pedal that I haven't mentioned to get me there?

I certainly don't need a looper - I have a good one of those that I already can't use!

If you're referring to the intro, that's spring reverb. I don't hear a delay on the bass.

This. Or plate but it’s tight decay either way. That’s a reverb.

Since the conversation has shifted to reverb, I really like the MXR Reverb. Gets you that wet spring sound and has a great modulation and room setting. I've ran through a few reverb pedals over the years and this has been the one that stuck with me years later.

that there is reverb, and I highly recommend the Hall of fame mini for your needs and more.

I use a Keeley Gold Star Reverb but not a lot. I previously used Keeley Canyons and Catalinbread CSIDMAN and while they were fun I couldn’t really find a use for them outside of heavily ambient music. Although in the hands of a more skilled bassist the CSIDMAN could be used to make some very funky breaks.

Having a really good blend pot makes a big difference. Many seem to be all or nothing. But with just a touch you can get some really nice unique tones or a good “vintage” tone. Keeley makes a ton of delay pedals that I have yet to try out but the Gold Star works for me so I did a very non TB thing and stopped shopping after I decided it was good enough for me.

FWIW, I ordered the Keeley Omni from Sweetwater. If that doesn't pan out, I'll look into the other suggestions.

The Catalinbread talisman is a great plate reverb. The pre delay feature on it is great for getting rid of the mud. It can also run at 18v for added headroom.

Ooh Aww... These are new, new. No wonder why I hadn't heard about these yet. I wonder how reliable these will be compared to the originals made in Milan in the '60s and '70s.

I’ve tried, and every time unless it’s a super quick slapback, it just throws me and everyone else off. So I gave up on it.

I use the Carbon Copy Analog MXR Delay --- I just use it very very subtle and it adds a tremendous amount of depth without going into echo mode--- i meaan it is BARELY on.. a millisecond or 2 of delay works sweet for me. I love the pedal and looked for a long time to grab one cheap and I am ver happy I have it now. It has a home forever on my lil board.
