Preface: My buddy, Tim, is the king of the curb-crawl and always stumbling across abandoned / orphaned hardware. Last week's haul included a fully functional Crest 2600 power amp (!), DOD rackmount GEQ, Sabine tuner, dbx crossover (234), and a most bizarre Aphex 301 Compellor (...mid 80's perhaps?). Can't find a manual on-line but did watch a YT video. From what I can tell, this is a compressor / leveler used primarily in broadcast applications. Strangely enough, the input / output are XLR only.

If anybody can provide addt'l info / insight / materials, I'd be most appreciative. I did fire it up and wasn't electrocuted in the process so that's a promising sign. Here's a pic I found online:

Sidenote: we've cobbled together any number of complete FOH / karaoke systems from parts scrounged. Tim has one particular Behringer 16 channel board that I wish would die a slow death. No such luck...and somebody gave us an exact duplicate!

Riis...mired in analog technology forever.

As I intimated in my response to your (same) question in the Recording Gear and Equipment sub-forum, the reason you probably got no responses to this question in the Effects sub-forum is because the Compellor sounds less like an "effect" than nearly any other compressor ever made!
