Api comp pedal, expert speculation please

Do you think this would be a good bass comp?

Haha, not sure labeling it Ratio would make more sense, as it lowers threshold as well in the upper range of the knob. It's a kind of ratio/threshold knob imo - again i'm no compression expert. Input & Sustain knob are highly interactive.

Spent a little time today testing mine out.

Bass -> cmp -> poweramp.

I dialed in moderate/heavy compression then blended in some dry signal to taste.

Ended up preferring the old style setting with a slow attack and fast release. Sounded very good. There is more color in this unit than I expected but it sounds great. Nice warm "chewy" mids while retaining clarity.

I'll try it with my Grace Bix as the front end and maybe add a Genzler re/q later on.

These three make a potent channel strip.

I really like the CMP. Good cleans at lower input settings to nice mild distortion when cranked. Great results in combination with the Whirlwind.

have been using the API CMP for a few months now - what a great sounding compressor! yes, metering would be nice, and labeling hte ratio knob "sustain" is kinda weird (but it really does add sustain), but it sounds great no matter how much compression you throw on.
I do find the transformer in it doesn't affect hte sound as much as the transformer in the API bass eq pedal, but it still does good things to the sound.

Honestly this is one of hte best compressor bargains out there

It is a great compressor and one I'd recommend. Here's my review:

Where do you guys typically put it in your signal chain? I've been running at the end to kind of glue everything together but wondering if it would serve me better in the front!

Interested to hear what you guys do.

My signal chain is:

Caveman BP1 Compact - (Caveman send) - Future Impact V3 - MXR Bass Synth - Darkglass Anagram - API Tranzformer CMP - (Caveman return) - XLR to FOH.
