Apple just released Logic Studio today.

It contains:

-Logic Pro 8 - They completely overhauled the interface, and added a lot of things from Pro Tools (one click take selection, etc)
-MainStage
-Soundtrack Pro 2
-Studio Instruments
-Studio Effects
-Studio Sound Library
-All 5 Garageband Jam Packs

They also removed the need for the stupid USB dongle for pro.

The price? $500! Pro 7 alone was $999.


I am puuuuuuuuuuumped. :hyper:

is the education discount for teachers or students? I know I got one when I bought my macbook a few months ago, but I dont know if that is the discount you're talking about.

I'm a student, but my mom is a teacher so if its only for teachers I could probably get her to buy it for me :D lol

It should be for both. I got the same discounts when I worked for the University as when I was going to school there.

They also added a lot of things from Digital Performer ; consolidated window , multitakes folder, automatic delay compensation.....

Good thing they redone the UI , It was very "un-Logic" ......

Curious to see it , at that price , I'll probably buy it and even if I don't like it , there is plenty of other usefull stuff.

Seeing as how you're an engineer I know you know the connection between Digi and PT. I like PT too but man, Logic Studio at $500 + whatever Apogee stuff you'd need is a good amount cheaper than building a comparable PT rig, and it "looks" like this new iteration of Logic is nicer than PTHD.

It's a lot cheaper to get into, as well. I can definitely see this doing some damage.

If I were to totally dump DigiPerf and Motu, I'd quickly go the Logic route without ever giving a second thought to PT.

Digidesign is the mother company of a number of different lines including ProTools (audio) and Avid (video editing). i have worked with Nuendo, Cubase, Logic, Acid, Garage band, Digital Performer, ProTools and analog tape (OMG tape is soooooo where it's at) and a couple of other. if budget isn't a question then i would say PT is the way to go. The reason that PT costs more is becasue you are haveing to buy the proprietary hardware to even be able to acces the software. I think Logic is a great program and have used it quite happily. it had a bit different GUI from PT or the others (they are pretty much the same things on the screen, just moved around and look different).

M-Audio has a thing called ProTools M-Powered which is a modified version of ProTools LE, but you are able to use it on any of M-Audios numerous interfaces. The Project Mix I/O is just about the same thing as the Digi 002 but buying it and the PT software ($250for software i think) would still be cheaper than just the Digi 002. For me, just since i love PT, if budget was an issue the i would prolly go with the PT M-Powered but from what you were saying i think logic would be great for you. Hell, now I want logic for myself.

I really like PT too. I definitely like it more than Logic 7, that's for sure. But man...take a look at the quick tour videos here. Quick swipe comping is pretty :eek: , and the interface redesign LOOKS like it completely hit the mark. I don't think it's anything revolutionary enough to make everyone with full PTHD rigs to go buy Logic, but for people with home studios and hardware that doesn't come with PTLE, I think this is the ticket.

I'd price out a Pro Tools HD rig versus a comparable Logic / Apogee rig but I'm too lazy. :)

not that long ago i found a full PT HD3 rig with the Control 24 desk and a Mac G4 completly upgraded. all of this in road cases. if you look around you might be able to find something like this for pretty cheap.
