I used a Quilter bass block and two Barefaced Big Babies. A handful of pedals. There are zero compromises sonically in my opinion. What's the point in busting backs?

Oh yeah, the head slips out of its docking space if you want to mix it up with other cabs.

The days of a ninety pound Sound City tube head, for a measly 150 watts into another hundred plus pounds of 2-15 are long gone.

Bass, amp, and gear bag in one trip.

Yeah, but are those "tube amps"? Heh.

For a gig that size, I use a Carvin MB15 Combo 200w with 15" neo that weighs around 27 lbs. along with a powerbank that lasts about 3 hours. If I feel the venue needs more, I add a matching 115MBE, 24 lbs, which brings the amp to 250w. Very compact too, I transport them in an old lady shopping cart. That's my 22" scale custom Tele bass that I sold.

I have the MB10 and matching 15” cab. Great little kit, but it’s not quite loud enough for most of my gigs. But my BRX210 and BX700 amp are pretty light and pumps pretty loud.

I haven’t used more than a 500 watt 2x10 in 20 years. Personally, I never understood why anyone would want/need more than that unless they were playing rooms with 1000 person capacity unsupported

Same reason my '67 StingRay had a 500+ HP 427, my custom bikes had an S&S 113” and a 105” stroker, and my HOG has 40” apehangers.

I like the fact that all my gigs are now ampless. The PA's I get to play through are far nicer and far more powerful than any bass amp, and I don't have to lift them.

Most of that seems like English and I know they’re supposed to be words but I’ll be darned if I can understand 50% of what you wrote.

I’ll take it to mean that you disagree with my opinion, based on your final sentence. That’s cool - but there’s a big difference between need and want. I perform a lot and I have quite a few friends who play a lot more than I do and not a single one of them are moving big amps and cabs… neither have any of them been moving that kind of stuff for at least as long as me. Big amps are relegated to the studio, or they’re backline provided by the venue or promoter or, if you’re lucky, they’re rentals and are being shlepped about by the road crew.

But hey, if you’re buff and like moving that stuff around, that’s great! I probably could use the exercise myself but I’d rather go to the gym.

Good point... sometimes I forget how big and buff I'm am.

And in case you hadn't heard, having things that bring you joy, and having things you look forward to (ie things you want) are integral to longevity.

I went light more than 10 years ago. Got a Genz Shuttle 6 docked on a 12T speaker. That's just 36 pounds and 300W. I have a 2x10 Shuttle cab if I ever need to get stupid loud (600W at 4 ohms with both cabs.) The second cab is about 34 pounds. I can carry one in each hand if needed.

The best thing about lightweight amps is how simplified the load in and load out is. I can carry a rumble 500 in one hand, a cased bass in the other, and wear a backpack full of misc gear. There's much less opportunity to get sidetracked and forget something, and much less opportunity for unsupervised gear to walk off when playing sketchy venues in sketchy places.

I like heavy basses though. A 12 pound instrument inspires confidence.

I’m thankful for modern amp and cab design. And there are various ways one can warm up a hifi amp. I enjoy modern hifi , and can appreciate a modern tube preamp to get that thing happening too.
