April 5th

well today is April 5th, 2007, this day 13 years the legend i look up too passed, some say suicide, some say murder, Im not going to get into that. But does anyone else out there look up to a musician now that passed before they listened to their music, for me 13 years ago I was 4 so I knew nothing about music but now its my life and this band is my favorite...anyway else go through something similar?

Not that i didn't hear his music when he was still here, but I think I have appreciated SRV much more since he's been gone.

I used to listen to him everyday.. Not a day passed by me without it.. .. I don't listen to it as much now..

and even though I realized how his music was easy and childish I still consider him my top favourite musician ever.. and that won't ever change

Who was it?

Not that i didn't hear his music when he was still here, but I think I have appreciated SRV much more since he's been gone.

I still remember the day he died. Call it unfair, but I hold his playing and tone as the standard for modern blues guitar. I guess that's why I really REALLY dislike Duke Tumatoe.

I have to say that the death of Darrel Abbot has proved a much bigger impact.

yeh. karen carpenter bob marley both left in the early 80's, when i was a small child.
funny, i started playing music in 1983, the same year that karen carpenter waved goodbye.

have you seen that show 'classic albums'? on vh1 classic, but not sure if it plays in Canada (it's on dvd).

they profiled the album 'nevermind.' really interesting and cool show. as someone who was in her teens during that crazy time, it really put the album in a different perspective for me.

p.s: 13 years ago? jeebus, i'm gettin old....

this isn't an opinion. Layne was clearly the better musician, singer and writer.

i really can't see how you can say Layne Staley is better then Kurt Cobain....really thats crazy.

Kobain, Hendrix, hell tons of artists I think about all the time I didnt know when they died. Some I wasnt even born.

Weird fact: most of them died at 27.

because Kurt is terrible, he cashed in on everyone's hard work. As far as being more pained mentally Layne takes the cake as well. Alice In Chains unplugged is 10x better than Nirvana's attempt at it.

I'll back up the Nirvana lovers here.

Kurt Kobain wasnt a great guitar player, or a great singer. But he had MOJO and it made him a great musician who wrote his music from his heart and his gut.
