Are all pickguards/scratchplates created equal?

Doing my very first frankenbass project, and I've hit a snag with the scratchplate. The body is a pre-routed p-bass in Alder, but I'm finding that standard scratchplates aren't fitting properly. This raises several conclusions - 1. the routing is wrong or just too big 2. the scratchplate is wrong or is fit for a smaller body (or is different slightly to original Fender parts for legal reasons).

Is there an online resource that displays the dimensions of scratchplates so I can check my routing against proper dimensions? I can easily redraw a template (I'm a graphic designer) and have another cut if needed.

Thoughts or opinions welcome... cheers.

Why not just make a custom right away? Gives a nice unique touch.

But yes, there are differences, even between different "standard" P pickguards. Maybe somebody will know more details and some URL's to help you out. I'd go with custom though.
