Are Bassists becoming antisocial ?

Wow, these threads are ridiculous. Time after time, groove vs. shred, groove vs shred...
Who the hell said you can't groove AND shred?! Wow! What a concept! I've heard many bass solos that had me rockin away, and added alot of life to a song, sometime you just need to open your ears and drop all pre-concieved notions and just LISTEN TO THE MUSIC!

I can't stand all this hate against players who use speed as a tool. To discredit something simply because its fast is stupid, and there is alot of SEVERE stupidity goin on here.

If you don't agree, read this to the person nearest to you

I am wee tot Ed,
Sofa king wee tot Ed

It's easier to be a keyboard warrior (albeit with a computer that has a mind of its own) than to do what you're wisely suggesting.

Thread like this make me sad/mad ... Bass is a wonderful instrument that should be a creation tool like any other instrument... not just the monotonous only groove oriented instrument stuck between drum and guitar.

Why everyone only think in terms of radio song in a hamburger format ... you know drum is the bread, cheese is bass, meat is guitar and ketchup is vocal. There is other valid option in the music universe ... like instrumental music, classical music that work differently than any other genre.

I'm very surprised that bass player limite themserves that much ... like you want to be only bass player not musician or be the best you can ... no ... many only use 1/10 of want they could do or be.

I think a great musician can ear a great solo no matter the instrument. The biggest problem with bass player who solo, take a groove and make it bigger to be a solo but it isn't. If you want to make great solo, you have to listen to the best player no matter the instrument.

And for the slap ... I prefer the slap technic Victor use ratter than any funk bass player who only use octave and pentatonic ... very very vey sad. Because when Victor slap it is more for the attack than what a funk bass player would do.

So ... I will continu to practice and improve to be closer to what I can be. Because I want to be the best I can, I don't do it for the money , the fame or make girl dance, I do it for me.

to each his own no one is forcing you to watch it.

you need to stop limiting yourself, do what you feel is needed experiment, bass is a young instrument that has unlimited possibilities. instruments evolve look at motown guitar playing and look at guitar playing now.

I am going to be honest about something and this does not account for all bassists, but this is for the lazy ones ( you know who you are lol) they want to play bass because they failed at guitar, and they think bass is easy. They dont push any boundaries whether it be on their rhythm playing or their solo playing, and when they see bassists who are trying to bring a new dynamic to the instrument, they bi**h an moan because of their jealousy.

So don't complain or you will end up on that list. I am sure you have potential do whatever you want on bass or any instrument it just takes dedication and a open mind.
