Are EBMM Stingrays really that great??

First of all, if I could marry the THOUGHT of playing bass I would, because I just LOVE playing bass that much......okay, don't know why I said that, but, since that's out of the way....;)

I think I'm going to get a Stingray for christmas since I'm finally in a band, and we got our first gig, and an SX just isnt gonna cut it, and we need something that will cut through two guitars and a medium-loud drummer really well. I want to know though, is the case that she comes with durable and quality?? And is it true that it lacks warmth??

BTW, BLACK AND MAPLE!!

I've owned a 98 black and maple SR4 from new. the band i was in at the time had a loud drummer and a loud guitarist and a vocalist who effected his voice in real time.

I was told to turn down more often than not, take from that what you will.

some say a stringray is a one trick pony, but when that pony's trick is walking on its hind legs, scratching itself with one hoof and flipping the crowd off with the other......

HEHE, I liked that last bit. The tone, from what I've heard of it is just soo......BALLSY, very fat, punchy, ETC. Just awesome!!:bassist:

Punchy yes, i had a MIM p bass with just a volume control and a set of quarter pound pick ups in it. That p had some of the punchiest sound ever, then i got a ray and it was even punchier . I sold that ray and miss it dearly it was a natural rosewood 3 band made in 2000.

They are awesome instruments! Great tone and playability, not cold or sterile. I prefer the rosewood fretboard as I think it gives the Stingray a warmer tone than the maple fretboard. The case that comes with it is an SKB type case and appears to be pretty durable, but is not an ATA type case.

Does the single Humbucker model with a maple fretboard sound too bright? I really want one, but if it sounds TOO bright, I may rethink it. I actually have never heard a huge difference between rosewood and maple tonally, IMO.

I used to play a fretless stingray 5 almost exclusively. It was ridiculously warm. I could get a very woody tone from it with the proper touch. I realize my old bass is nothing like what you intend to get, but I wanted to make the point that fretboard and string choice will greatly effect the tone you get. IME the maple board in combination with bright strings can lack a bit of "warmth". However, if you're looking for zing and snap that combo is killer. Now a rosewood board and nickel strings.... mmmmmmmm those are toasty. And yes, EBMM are all that, and very punchy too.

Yes, Stingrays really are that great. They are the true gigging workhorses. I can never go too long without having one of these in my arsenal. They always sound great and are really fun to play. I will say they tend to be on the bright side and I usually cut almost all the highs off the EQ. I get more compliments on my tone when I use my Stingray than any other bass.
