Are Fender and Squier neck interchangeable?

A Squier VM Jazz neck is not even close to fitting onto a 1972 Jazz Bass IME.
That's about what I would expect from an older bass like that. I assume that the newer the models involved, the more likely they are to fit. I see in the description of the replacement necks you can buy from Fender say in their description, "for Fender or Squier by Fender".

I'm glad you mentioned this. My most recent mod was to install a high-mass bridge from a Blacktop Jazz onto a Squier Standard Jazz. (I also put a pair of neck-sized Classic Vibe Jazz pickups, but I've already covered that subject) The top four bridge screws matched up just fine (all but the one closest to the G-string), which was enough to make sure it was mounted securely. If I had needed to mount the fifth, I would've had to fill the original hole and drill a new one.

.. just to expand on my friend Malak's bridge comments here ... the culprit in this attempt is that 'high mass' bridge with the brass saddles that is found on CV's, etc ... as mentioned a few times along the way, the hole spacing on that particular bridge (and subsequently the drilling on bodies that used it stock) is wider than the standard Fender/Squier 5 hole, topload bridge pattern ... IF it is desired to use this bridge on a body drilled for the standard 5 hole pattern, use the center screw/hole first, so that the bridge placement is centered, then the next two holes (going outward) should work despite being ever so slightly off, but the outside two holes will be at least 1/2 the diameter of the hole off, and although the screws could be put in at a sharp outward angle, it is best to plug and redrill as needed ... same thing as Malak said, but I just start with the center hole which left two holes (instead of his one) that needed attention ... I know he has done extensive mods on some of these models too, and is a good reference for those attempting mods on these platforms ...
