Hi. I'm interested in a lot of different styles of music and I'd like to know that are the vintage Fenders versatile? (I don't own a vintage Fender but I hope that someday I will!

Are Fender vintage Jazz/Precision basses versatile?

Yes.
Think about it. They were the most used instruments in rock, funk, blues, country, pop. So yes, they're versatile. And very little has changed tonally since then, except for active versions. The jazz offers more tonal variety, however the P bass offers a tone that suits and compliments the band in very many situations.

Vintage Fenders are desirable and valuable, but don't think of them having a magic sound. Some sound great, some don't. There is no reason that a present day Jazz or Precision should sound any better or worse than a Vintage instrument. Mojo in the old wood? Believe it if it makes you feel good.

Hi Rocky- sorry but you don't get it. Old wood is seasoned. New guitars sound like a live tree. Thud and no tone. There IS no way a new Fender bass, Custom Shop to Squire can compare to a lightweight old Fender Jazz or P, period. JMHO.
