Are K10s still King?

I'm looking for the best pair of gig worthy, high powered 10s. The lighter the weight, the better.

Mainly for PA vocals & compact DJ system for small events.

Are the QSCs still king when comparing portability vs performance vs cost vs weight vs loudness vs reliability?

Also thinking along the lines of the newer Mackie SRM or JBL Eon self powered enclosures - but I haven't had the chance to audition either.

how are the DXR10s as monitors? I have tried a few things and am thinking about the next year and upping the game a little. I had bought a set of the JBL PRX712s when they cleared at $499 ea and a couple of days ago they had a set or two at $449........got the difference back. They are great as mains, but I just can't seem to get them as full as i would like as monitors, as in......can't get them close to the K12s.

can you successfully put some kick in them without them getting a little cranky?

they have a lot of bass response, I have actually used one as a bass amp a few times on low volume gigs with a classic rock band,

I used my Mackie Thump1000 12 as a bass rig with a sansamp in front of it - it actually sounded impressive.
Kick is a whole different animal - I can't get it with the Thumps, and it is okey-doekey with the K10. I actually sat back there with a drummer one night, and had the drum monitor set up with a sub as a biamped monitor. Until the sub came into play, it really was tough to hear any kick at all.

we do a lot of smaller rooms, where I don't take a sub and use the K12s. they do ok in these places, and make the setup and teardown easier, but also fit the room better at the time. Do you think the Yamahas could do that? if not - do you think they could feed the drummer and make him happy? My guys aren't hi maintenance, but I do sound for some that are....so I am intrigued

So I stopped by my GC today to see and hear anything new. Not an amazing selection - mostly lower end stuff. I did check out the JBL eon 610 (I'm a fan of JBL) but they were underwhelming. I also listened to a K10 and a K8 and they sounded like studio monitors with a built-in sub. Amazing.

I use a single K12 as a personal monitor for my loud-as-heck metal bands. It works wonderfully well, even with Drop-A tuning. I love just putting my bass into my Axe-Fx II or AX8, then into the QSC and away I go. I was super impressed with it the first time I tried it at a gig, at volume. I really did not expect it to do as well as it did! I almost went with a K10, but I was a little worried about it with Drop-A at high volume from my ~15 minutes of time with it at a store.
