Are looks really THAT important to you?

Like a lot of us here, I've dated some knockout attractive women.
But I will say, there is one in my mind that "stands out" from the rest and she, IMO, was very plain/avarage looking.

Just sayin......;)

Now my wife OTH.......no one comes close.......

I'm extreamly vain so aside from playbility and tone looks have to be what I want. Of coarse if I don't like the color/finish on the bass I have no problem sanding it down and doing it the way I want. Spray paint is fairly cheap.

For instance I WILL NOT own a 4-1 headstock. That just irks me to a point where I can't describe.

It was a sort of faded white instead of black, rosewood neck instead of maple.. But I still loved that thing.

So basically, would you buy an instrument that didn't tick all of the boxes cosmetically, if it meant you had a bloody good instrument anyways? :smug:

yes man my bass of doom is a beat to sh$% jazz bass and plays as easy as a drunk virgin at prom. so yes mon i would agree that she doesnt look she did when she got to the dance but man she rides well.

If an instruments only looks great and doesn't sound great and have the ability to be made to play well, I'm not the least bit interested. I find great looking "duds" to be completely unappealing. I've also seen people spend lots of money trying to fix lookers. No thanks.

That's why I don't get excited by bass pics anymore... been disappointed way too many times upon actually playing the instrument. Way more misses than hits IME. OTOH a great sounding visual sleeper... I'm in.

Giving this some more thought, the pointy look reminds me of the artwork on early 1970's Williams pinball machines. I didn't like it at first but it can grow on you.

From looking again at the pictures, the white plastic strip on the upper tone controls sticks out a bit.

It doesn't surprise me that is plays well and has a variety of tones.

Funny you would post that. In my earlier post, I was going to use a Big Al as an example of an outstanding bass, but one I wouldn't buy because I don't find them attractive (to say the least!) ;) I didn't mention it because I didn't want to single out one particular bass. But from the "Different Strokes" Department, some folks think they look hot. But a bass has to be appealing to me in order for me to buy it.

Yes, this is exactly how I ended up with my Road worn Jazz. I don't really care much for the relic look, and I'm not a big fan of Fiesta Red. But after picking the thing up and playing it for about an hour, I knew it was the right bass for me. Sounds awesome, feels even better to play. I'm glad I'm not too hung up on looks after all!
