Are there any NEW StingRay heros?

Yep. Love his playing, one of my favorites. I know he used a Sadowksy J when playing live, but I believe he has used a Stingray in the studio for awhile. Underrated player (IMO)

Yeah. He used the Sadowsky I think on the Creed records. The old stuff may have been an original Jazz bass. Regardless the producer used the Sansamp bass driver on those old records. That was a big part of the sound, and I was told this firsthand. Not to derail, but I thought you may find that somewhat interesting.

To me the stingray is everything the Jazz is not - awesome slap tone but still is very mid focused if you play fingerstyle. I really enjoy the modern, burpy response of it. An amazing Ray tone is Scofield's Loud Jazz album - just penultimate Ray tone, IMO.

I have played Fender (first "P" then "J) pretty much since I started. Thinking about making the switch.

Nick Beard of Circa Survive used to play stingrays. I think he uses a p bass also now...
I've seen circa maybe 4 or 5 times live and I can honestly say that I never cared for the overall mix or bass tone/sound live but I love them anyway.

So... Who has come along in the last 5 years that plays a bass guitar, I'm sure I'm missing something but I just don't see them?

as far as cover bands, they are everywhere with variety and modern country groups in my area.....I think I see StingRays and their EB/MM variants more than anything else in those genres

I was just Schooling one of my younger co-workers about Body Count and the original "Cop Killer" controversy...and here they are still killin' it!

I can go on a tirade about "No, there are no new Stingray Heroes because no one plays real music anymore...(at least in what the general population is exposed to)" ... but this probably isn't the right venue for it.
Sure there are great musicians out there who are absolutely amazing, but barely anyone ever heard of them. They may be a "Hero" to one or two people, but that doesn't really count...

Brian rules. I have played through his Ashdown rig a few times. He used a Sadowksy J for a while and years and years ago when we first met, he was rocking that Sadowsky and was GASing over a Warwick I had.

Funny to read this topic because I have been gigging with a Stingray classic and really loving it. A lot of musicians come up to me and ask about it, since not so many are out in the wild like they used to be. In a Funk/jazz situation it kills and in the studio whenever a tune needs a more uptempo and tight staccato sound, it just works perfectly.

I stayed at his Boutique hotel he owned with his ex-wife in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica. This was around 2013 and I didn't even know he owned it...but there was a Bass Cleff infused into the logo and I did some research...but now he is no longer affiliated...
But I always thought he used Sadowsky's...or maybe he just switches around depending on what tone he's after.

Trujillo has always been an SR5 user, even though he had other endorsement deals and used tons of different basses...the SR5 is always one that I identify him with.
