The Fender Bassman 100T is the first amp I've seen that makes it so you don't have to be connected to a cab as it has internal power soakers so you could technically run it to your computer or recording rig and use headphones

I've done the same with my Ashdown Little Bastard... Just two power resistors in series to form a dummy load / voltage divider. The resistors are 5,6 ohm and 3,3 ohm and I take the signal for the cans over the 3,3 ohm.

Works perfectly and sounds amazing...

I've been messing around with blues harp and have decided to try one of the Excelsior tube amps for that. I will plug in my bass for grins and giggles and let you know how it works out.

Fender produced an amusing promo video for it if you aren't familiar with it.

I think you would be as happy or happier with solid state. I have a Vox AC30 also I have a GK 400RB combo. I was like, oh yeah tubes are the secret to killer tone. Well, yes this is true for guitar, but not necessarily bass. I prefer my GK over the Vox, when playing bass. It is more verstaile, controllable, and works good at any volumes. I guess GK is 280 watts solid state vs. Like 40 watts tube on the AC30. Really the high watts of a bass amp are what makes them sound good in their solid stateness.

SWR is solid state, too. Don't mistake a single preamp tube for a tube amp. And a lot of bassists use solid state. I have some solid state stuff and have used it. Even had an SWR amp for a little while. Don't care. I like tubes better. JPJ isn't up there playing bass for me.
