Are these modified pickups damaged?

These Bart. pickups were sanded down on one side to fit a bass exposing some metal in the pickup. Is this going to effect the tone or performance of the pickup in any way? Here's some pics...

They should be fine. If they work, then nothing was affected. That's probably just the shielding inside the pickup you are seeing.

It's never a good idea to sand down the pickups though.
