Are you picky about guitar (bass) stands?

I bring my own stand to ever gig and jam session. I have a couple of offset body shapes (a Jazz and a Reverend) so I find the a-frame type stands not stable enough, and I won't put my basses on a cheapo stand. I use an Ultimate stand that hangs the bass from the headstock, it folds up small enough to fit in my gear bag with cables and pedals, so it's not an extra trip.

To me, this is a similar mindset/attitude about caring if your basses get dinged or scratched. I hate dings and scratches, so my basses are always on a stand, they are never leaning against a wall or amp or anything else. Personal preference, I know, but that's mine.

I never use a stand or a hanger ever, when I can help it. They seem to be the cause of most all damage to guitars and basses. (Stands, or leaning it on something)

At home my instruments are played daily and go right back in the hard case. The ones that aren't played daily are in their hard case in the closet. Never had any home damage this way.

On stage when I can't do anything else, I bring my own Hercules stand and put it in the safest place available, away from the edges of the stage, cables, or anyplace there would be foot traffic other than my own, where someone could snatch it or knock it over.

I've been using the Ultimate Support stands for more years than I can remember and not once had a bass get knocked out of it.

Some stands are not angled back enough.
Some aren't wide enough in the yoke.(six,seven string bass neck)

I gauge whether to bring a stand or not on the nature of the gig. If I'm rolling in my cart with my whole rig on it, might as well throw a stand on there too (I use the classic Ultimate Support tripod types that hang the bass from the headstock--folds up pretty compact). But if it's backline and I have the luxury of walking in with just my gig bag, I'll take my chances and just use what's there (or not, if it looks unstable--then I'll just keep the bass in its bag until show time). I will NEVER just lean a bass against an amp/cab, not even at home!

I'm really more a wearing or in the case kind of person out of the house. A big stage, one band, and i could be persuaded to bring the Ultimate, which at home works great.

I've used the K&M "A" stands since the mid-90s.
Portable, quick set-up, & secure - I've never had an issue.

Live, depending on the rig, I often use a modified version of Swing String Amp "suitcase hadle" hanger (or whatever they call it).
Very secure and takes about a minute to attach - or I just leave the brackets strapped on the cab during transport, and just screw in the hangers at setup.
Minimal footprint, and nobody can knock them over.
(but I always have a K&M stand packed )

Home - everything is on Swing String hangers with custom oak or cherry 1x backers (with a headstock shape routed on one end) that hold 4 basses each.
I also have an older Warwick Rock Stand case for "overflow"

I haven't felt the need to look at other stands....

I don't use stands in live situations. I put my instruments back in the case or lie them down on the case, when not playing. I have seen too many knocked over in my years as a live sound engineer, so I avoid it altogether.

I typically gig with 2 - 1x15 cabinets. Put one of these on the top cabinet's handle(s) and you have something way sturdier and tougher to knock over than any stand. Super portable too.
I recently sold my Hercules dual stand. No need for it anymore.

i voted, "it really doesn't matter to me as long as it works." i voted that way because it really doesn't matter to me as long as it works.

i don't lean my axes against stuff at the gig, so i put 'em back in the case/bag if i don't have a stand. i have a bunch of different types of stands --- i like 'em all!

So Anyway, I use a small rubber gizmo by Fender that sits on top of my amp. A half-circle sticks out enough so I can lean my bass on it.
I use it for gigs because it's lightweight and I don't use an expensive bass. It holds a pick if we ever play Poke Salad Annie.

When I played at a church or had a house gig, I kept something there that was a lot more substantial.

This reminds me of a thread here years ago, years ago, where a bass player had to sell his bass because it didn't fit right on his stand.

I have regular stand in my apartment and keep a small A-frame stand inn my car for gigs. It works just fine. Only $17 at GC.

+1000 on Hercules. If I'm bringing a mic stand it's also Hercules.
