Are you really happy being "The Bass Player"

You know, I have too. I could always find guitarists who could play as well or better than me, but good bassists are a little more rare. And when I play guitar, I always think how lame the bass playing is. I still want to be a rock star glory hog sometimes, though ;)

Yeah I'm another bass player who also plays guitar. When I play guitar I'm always self conscious about what I'm playing, how it's being received, etc. But when I play bass I'm just in the groove and loving it. Plus you have so much more power over the song on bass with regards to feel and tension and timing. Yeah I'm loving it!

I've played acoustic guitar in a professional setting before however bass is where I feel most comfortable and get the most enjoyment (probably because I can get the most out of the instrument) I also got asked to play drums in a metal band once, though that didn't last because I don't like metal and the metal heads didn't really like me, thought I was alittle lame with my jazz and my salsa dancing :smug:

I used to think salsa dancing was lame too, but chicks certainly don't think it's lame! Now I wish I could do it!

Hell yeah, i even bust it out a clubs and raves, and i tell u wat i rarely miss out on the female attention, and I'm not even that good looking, being able to dance is a very good pulling technique lol

Interesting take, that I've always agreed with.

When parents come in to sign up their kids for Piano, Voice, Guitar etc. it's pretty normal.

But then I will get some who come in and say "Susie says she wants to play bass" and they give me a look like they're hoping I will talk the kid out of it.

I tell them, "bass is a calling. Let her go for it. It's a wonderful instrument."

I'm forced into being a vocalist, and the backup bassist... for now... cause the incumbent is going to be taking leave and I'll be very happy to move out of a vocalist role and just be content being the bassist.

I also play guitar and mandolin, but I'd rather play bass....

To Groove is to live!

I went to buy a BASS when I got my first guitar. Got taleked into a guitar at the last minute.

I am proficient at both.

However I don't mind being the "bass player" at all.......as long as the guitarists are adequate.

Playing LIVE bass has all the power and dynamics. it is like weilding a weapon. I like it.

Playing bass is the most fulfilling thing in my life. It is such a powerful instrument, blending rhythm with melody. Lately I have been experimenting with my bass lines, making subtle changes and watching for reactions in the crowd. Music is Magic.

Im very happy that Im a bass player. Its soo different, it isnt mainstream, people rather wants to play guitar or drums. Playing bass feels kinda unique, I really love it. Ironically I do feel as a born bassist, but I didnt pick up the bass before I was 16 years old, but when I was around 12-13 years old I discovered U2 and Adam Clayton, its very strange, I have always said to myself, If im gonna play in a band I would play bass, but again, I didnt play bass before I was 16 years old.

But anyways, I play bass now, thats all that matters to me. :) :bassist:

I have only been playing bass in my band for about 6 months (originally started on guitar) and it was probably the best decision I ever made. I never thought I would be a bassist, but I ended up loving it and its the only instrument I want to play.

Yes, I think being the bass player is about whatever you want it to be. We have a great community, I take pride in my playing, I see it being just as valid as any other instrument. I never had an urge to play guitar. I started playing bass when I was 13 and it's been nearly 7 years now!
