I'm going to have to forward this thread to my fiance. She bought me a pair of white new balances two and a half years ago for my birthday. She has been pssed off ever since that I didn't like them. Six months ago after agreeing not to get me a birthday gift she presents me with a new pair of blue new balance sneakers. I immediately got up dug the white pair out of the closet and threw them out. She was double pssed. She said it was insulting and disrespectful. I was glad to be free of the ugliest pair of shoes I'd ever seen.

Here is the CREEP (yours truly) out on the dace floor playing the Brown Eyed Girl Bass solo. I also get the girls to sing along with the Sha la la la... part. Our regulars would reach up onto the stage and pull me out onto the dance floor if I "forgot" to go out on my own. Yeah they really hate this creepy part of the show.

With that said and proven by a picture, I have jumped out onto the dance floor when the crowd just wasn't ready or into it. And yes it did feel a bit c r e e p y.

I'm not, but boy our singer sure is! He wanders out into the crowd all night. It got even worse when he got IEM. We will be going into the chorus and I'll go to hit the harmony and hear this awful screetch and think "What the Hell? Man he sure missed that one!" and then look out and it's some drunk chick!

Our guitar player used to get up on the sub cabinet and just as he would launch into the solo, he would jump up into the air and land on the dance floor on his knees!

Actually, it's kinda funny really!

We (all of us except the drummer) have wireless rigs. We go out into the audience once a gig. Seems to go over pretty well. You be the judge:

We got out during that one too. Not always but when the night is right...yep!

I Mix from stage and wander out a few times a night. Mostly I try to avoid dancers and get to places where I can get a decent impression of the mix. Reality checks as the audience ebbs and flows are real important to me.

I've been using a wireless for over 30 years, and never once did people not like it when I hopped off the stage and played in the crowd. You shouldn't overdo it, but once in a while it's fine. What's the point of having a wireless if you stand in one spot and never move the whole night?

Our singer goes out in the audience (yes the actual audience) to get people to sing back ups, for the most part people (actual people who like to have fun) come running to him.

Our singer, as previously noted spends most of the set in the mosh pit, and as previously noted, he's not on wireless. I get a little kick out of watching the engineer's face (if he hasn't worked with us before) when the singer hits the pit.

Now if I could just be rid of the recurring nightmare of some pimple faced kid strung up from the rafters by the singers tether...

Interacting with the audience is a great idea

I can't even make that sentence work in my head as it simply does not compute... I am dressed in black, hiding behind my amp against a black background. Only there to play music, very much not a performer. And quite happy for the front line to consist entirely of attention-seeking egotists who can be as wirelessed-up as they like as long as their antics keep attention away from me

I’m a smaller dude and I’ve gotten up on a lead singer’s shoulder and ridden around while soloing in the audience. That has always brought cheers from the crowd.

Haha yes I've been that engineer... if the feedback isn't bad enough the trail of mic stands and DI boxes following the singer's mic lead off the stage is true sound guy horror...

You're wrong. I have had great results playing in the audience. I'm not a great player; no one's astounded, but I have had a ton of enthusiasm from audience members. Interacting with the audience is a great idea, and if it's not working, you're doing it wrong.

If you do it acting like a douche... you'll get a poor response. If you do it at the right moment with the right audience it can be a lot of fun.

Once we ended up doing a kind of 'conga' leaving just the drummer on stage... it was a RHCP tribute band, so it's not like we were taking ourselves too seriously. It sounds lame, but it was a lot of fun and people kept reminding us of that night for quite some time afterwards.

Don't do it to show off. It doesn't work. Do it to have fun, and people respond very well in my experience.
