News last night some airports have gone to stopping sales of plastic bottled water. Municipalities also. Now it's going to be canned water. What a palava.

I know that in the US, even single-use plastic labeled with a recycling logo with a number inside it is not recycled.

Up here in Canada recycling is huge, that being said...
I work at a school, we have two separate dumpsters for regular waste and recycle. One truck comes and dumps both of them.

According to Scientific America, men recycle less because it’s seen as feminine. I agree.
I've lived in two extremes of the recycling mantra.
Five boroughs of NYC where you'll get fined $75 (at the time, probably more now) if you forget that they deem pizza boxes to be garbage and not recyclable and stick it in with the rest of the cardboard. Also, if someone decides to go through your cans and bottles and leave the bag open on the street you're on the hook as well, which happened way too many times for me to count.
Then off to PA. In the county where I've previously resided, they shut the recycling center location down and you had to pay for recycling to be hauled away. Where I am right now, I would have to drive about 20 miles one way to drop off a bag of recyclables. No thanks.
The concept of recycling in itself might have been a noble one but its implementation definitely leaves an awful lot to be desired, at least in my experience.

In another experiment, participants perceived themselves to be more feminine after recalling a time when they did something good versus bad for the environment.”
Men Resist Green Behavior as Unmanly
Somehow I'm not surprised, but man, that's pathetic. What's "manly" about waste and mess? Just a stupid attitude. Thrift and efficiency, people, and making and using things built to last - nothing airy-fairy about that.
I don’t think it’s a problem with the act of doing it. It a problem with how it’s marketed. It’s not so much that waste and mess are masculine, it’s that eco-friendly options are feminine. The article says companies should change the packaging of their products.
Here in Sacramento County, when they started the recycling program many years ago, they were very specific about what could go into the bins. As the years went by, they started accepting more and more stuff into one large bin.
