Hello all

The obvious solution to storage is the Stagg EDB case, the GEC-EDB. As the Stagg EUB is a straight rip off of the Aria the case should be a perfect fit. It's £73 in the UK.

Another possibility, with a nod to Mark Gollihur's research, is the Sportube Series 1, which I think should fit the bass in its soft bag.

No, it's to help Aria owners source cases and stands for their EUBs. My point was the Stagg EDB is a direct copy of the Aria SWB, so these items should be a perfect fit.

Hello folks

I can't quite work out what the middle two trim pots do on the EQ circuit board. Can anyone help?

Working from the top (i.e. neck end) down, I believe they are:

i) Magnetic pickup volume
ii) Piezo
iii) Piezo
iv) Master Volume

But I'm not sure what ii) and iii) do. Does one control the E and A string half od the piezo and the other the D and G, or are they tone controls?

Hi Gareth.

My SWB Lite doesn't have the magnetic pickup but it does have 3 trim pots in the control cavity. As far as I can tell, there is a seperate trim pot for each of the pickup elements under the bridge feet (i.e seperate level controls for the bass side and treble side) plus what I believe is a centre frequency shift for the treble control - turning anti-clockwise accentuates the mids, clockwise brings out the clanky treble. I suppose the fourth trim pot controls the level of your magnetic pickup, which should be easy enough to check.

Hope this helps - there's b#gger all information on the onboard electronics on either the Aria or Fishman interweb sites.

Thanks for this. Pots 1 and 4 are definitely mag pickup volume and master volume respectively and the middle two definitely only affect the piezo, so I wonder if one is piezo volume and the other the frequency sweep you describe above? Shall we post pics and compare circuit boards?

If the mystery pot is the frequency shift, try turning it clockwise while playing - you should hear a marked increase in the treble; it can get pretty nasty and nasal towards the top of its travel.

I've now sorted the pots. They are:

i) Magnetic pickup volume
ii) Piezo volume
iii) Piezo eq (very nasal and nasty further clockwise it goes)
iv) Master Volume

Hi all,

I see this thread doesn't get a lot of action but thought I'd give it a try.

I just picked up a new Aria SWB-03 from a local shop. I have been playing fretless BG for several years and when I saw this I knew owning it was the right thing to do. I play with a group that does what we call American Cowboy Rock. Austin Tx roadhouse kind of stuff and I think the Aria will fit right in for a lot of the songs. So far I love it and have already gigged with it. I've been spending some time figuring out the tone settings with my gear (this bass only has the piezo p/u), how high to set the peg, etc. The one thing I can't get comfortable with yet is the "arm" coming off the side. Anyone else here using one of these? What seems to be a comfortable posture for you? Never having played DB I'm sure I'm missing something elementary.

Anyone else tried this. I wasn't too happy with the Aria pick up so stopped using it. Fitted an old Fishman pick up to the bridge. Sounds great to me. Comments welcome

Sorry about that. With decent speakers attached to the PC the bass came over well. As soon as i disconnected them it's hard to hear the bass.

I just wondered if anyone else had tried using the fishman or equivalent pick up rather than the standard aria one?

I have an Aria SWB-Lite BIS. Using either pickup on it's own the string-to-string balance is fine, but when I blend them the A string volume is much higher than the others.

Not a huge deal because I mainly use 100% piezo, but is this common on this model?

I got to play one of these at a music shop and it was lovely, sounds full and fits well with our folk/jazz/acoustic band so with that in mind, I've made a serious consideration to purchase an Aria SWB-lite.

Only thing I have considered is a possible change in strings but is there anything I should take note of? Particularly for playing arco?

Slightly bigger bump but my Aria finally arrived.

Didn't have much time to take photos this morning (damn exams) but here is my new bass, an Aria SWB-Lite One. Kind of being thrown in the deep end with it, I need it for about 8 songs this weekend so I need to be pitch perfect on it and learn to bow properly. :LOL:

First impressions from band practice last night... I find it's extremely well set up, very tidy, nothing rattling. The finish isn't perfect mainly what appears to be cutting burns on the body and some paint bubbling on the headstock near the truss rod but the fretboard is spot on, no dead spots, flat and nice. Fortunately, this is the most negative thing I have to say about it.

Tonally, It kind of has a sound sitting between a fretless bass and an upright, probably leaning more towards the fretless. By no means is this a bad thing, it is versatile and fits in the mix much better than my other basses. I can get a dub bass sound going whenever I want. A plus is that the Fishman piezo pickup sounds amazing and when you dial in a bit of the magnetic pickup, it is heavenly and I actually expected to use the magnetic pickup more than I am. One of the knobs had to be re-orientated though since it was out of line with the others (I am that pedantic )

The support bar works just like it should, I guess. No arguments there. I move around a bit anyway so it's not as if I want it firmly planted on my body. The bass does rotate slightly whilst playing but that'll settle down with time, probably just excitement.

Tuners work as they should, very well. The end pin is super easy to adjust and reaches well for all 6ft of me. The strings are okay, not great. Once I get a bow, new strings will be on my to buy list.

So am I happy? Oh god yes. Did it get me laid? Yes, but I think the alcohol helped last night.

Hi, I'm new here, but been playing EUB for a few years.
Quick question regarding the magnetic pickup- is it adjustable in height at all? Can you position it slightly below the fretboard?
I ask because I use the slapping technique often and I can not have the strings hit the pole pieces of the pickups, thus I could only use this bass if I can move the pickup a bit away from the strings.
