yup, in latest issue of Bass Player there's an ad for a limited edition US availability of the SB-1000RI. At $2,500 list (eek!) it's not for the faint hearted.

It's also not on the website that is listed in the ad and it's also not sold anywhere in the US as far as I kow. I posted a thread called ARIA PRO II SB-1000RI - A Crap Marketing Job Check out my rant. Aria also has not updated their dealers list on the website in years.

I called aria directly ages ago about buying one and they said the street price is about $1,500.

Saw the one on ebay. But the one on ebay that really has be pondering my purpose in life is the Pre 1980's SB-1000 without the LED light ( and with the Bat Ears headstock). I am seriously considering overpaying for it.

Mine had a really long neck, despite being the same 34" scale as my Status Shark. It obviously wasnt any longer in scale, so its purely down to the position of the bridge on the body being set further towards the pups...
it made the first couple of frets a further reach than on the same scale bass as the status.

Is there any indication from Aria that CB stands for Cliff Burton?
Cliff played a SB Black 'n' Gold I and a black SB 1000, the SB 1000 CB has oval inlays and all black hardware.
Cliff's SB 100 had the standard gold hardware, so why should his "tribute" model sport black hardware? If it's a model designed by Cliff, but that never made it 'cause of his untimely death, I think it's weird that Aria never advertised with that fact....
Maybe CB stands for Complete Black?

It does stand for Cliff Burton. He actualy played both a SB Elite I B&G and an SB1000. The difference is that the former is passive electornics with 18MM string spacing and the latter active wtih 16MM spacing (tight!).

SB 1000 also has an Ebony fretboard with dot inlays. (B'n'G and Elite both have a rosewood fetboard with oval inlays)

Noting the similarity between this model and the SB Black 'n' Gold I model, Diego adds, “Firstly the bridge of the Elite I is totally gold; the bridge of the Black 'n' Gold I (or SB-R60 Black 'n' Gold before 1983) is black with gold screws and gold stringholders.
Secondly the cover of the electronics compartment at the rear of the Elite I is gold, on the Black 'n' Gold I it is black

On pictures you can clearly see a black bridge on cliff's bass, so I'm sure that's a SB Black 'n' Gold I.

Dude, he played both. The SB Elite I Black and gold (and every other model) has the oval inlays and the wider spacing.

There are also pics of cliff playing the SB-1000 in b lack finish. You know it is the Sb1000 because 1) no oval inlays, 2) Tear drop shaped Pointer knob that is the 6-way active eq tone selector for the SB1000. 3) all the other features of the SB1000.

Truth be told there is not much info that survived about these basses in teh popular press but he did play both basses. Whichever he played more is anyone's guess. I would bet he played the ELite I B&G more because that is the one he is most pictured with.

Aria re-released the SB1000 and did a JT model so from their cost perspective it makes more sense to stay with one model ergo the SB1000CB, but I have seen first hand pics of Cliff with the 1000 so he did at least play it and Aria did in fact name the SB1000CB after him and they even say so on their Japanese website. Check it out.

Hey played a Black SB1000 and a SB Black 'n' Gold I (as I stated in my first message), the SB 1000 can be seen in most videos (Cliff 'em all) I was pointing out the differences between the Elite and the Black 'n' Gold models which you seem to mix together, I've never seen him with a SB Elite I and the SB Elite I Black and gold is not a model I've ever heard of...

I couldn't find any indication for a relation between Cliff and the SB1000 CB on the Japanese site either...
Cliff did had an endorsement contract with Aria btw. The SB 1000 CB is a '96 + model, so Cliff never got to see it...

Thanks for the pic. I have that exact bridge on an old mostly non-original Rickenbacker 4001. It was the first 4-string I ever played that didn't have the string spacing of a typical P-Bass, and I totally fell in love with the narrower spacing.

Would that bridge still be available from anywhere? I'm trying to find a narrow replacement bridge for my P-bass copy but haven't had any luck so far.

Thanks for that link. What exactly is 'string pitch' ? At first I thought it was the string spacing, but they specify the spacing separately so I wasn't sure.

The only other bridge I've been able to find with narrow spacing is a Schaller bridge that's incorrectly labeled as a 6-string bridge on the AllParts site. It only shows an AllParts stock number so I don't know what model it is, and the Schaller site is down so I can't reference it to anything.

My SB1000CB has the J510SJ bridge in black, have they changed this on the newest ones? "String pitch" refers to the spacing, I'm guessing that something probably got lost in translation.

Hello everyone I'm new to this forum, and having owned my bass for over 20 years. I'm still mystified as to why my guitar is slightly different to all the others I've seen. I thought it was simply a SB1000 it looks very much like the one John Taylor played in Duran Duran back in the early 80's (that's why I bought it) but it has one pick up and only 2 pots (one volume & one tone) an active or boost switch and just an ordinary insert for the jack not a sunken one. it's the same colouring as the JT model but LEFT handed. The serial number is 2050943 which I believe indicates it is a 1982 guitar, therefore when I bought it new in a shop in the North East of England it was about 4 years old. (possibly old stock).

I love this guitar and although I'm primarily a guitar player I cannot bring myself to part with it. I'd rather hang it on the wall to look at if I never get to play it again. If anyone knows what model it is I'd be most grateful if you could tell me.

Sorry to bump an old thread and you're probably not even going to read this but I'm guessing it's a SB R-60. Basically same as the Elite I.
