Around The World - Red Hot Chili Peppers, how difficult?

I've just learnt the Yokohama version of Around the World by RHCP, with the beginning solo and variations but not being an experienced player, like the majority of Talk Bass!, was wondering how hard you think this is in your books?

Thanks!

Don't know about hard or easy, that all depends on the person trying to play it. I will say that its a cool bass line and if it sounds good and you enjoy playing it, then you have done well. A lot of wicked cool bass lines and hooks are not hard to play for most people with a little practice, but the key to each one you learn is that its a learning experience and another step in developing your skill. Good work, now learn Soul to squeeze. That's a little challenge and a great bass line to hear and play. :)

I'd say it is fairly difficult. First, the intro is fast and has you crossing three strings. Second, the verse has your fretting hand moving back and forth between first position all the way up to the end of the neck prety quickly. Once you get past that, it's easy. :)

I didn't like the into from that concert, but it's a great song. Flea shows that not only does he have great chops, but he can do the simple but extremely tasteful lines that can really make a song.

That's one song I have to learn.

Great song to learn. Practice the intro solo thing slowly to make sure your playing all the notes in time and not missing any. After theres quite alot of fret hand movemnt on the verse which seems hard while your figuring it out but when you've memorized the notes its not that bad. then the Chous has a great melody supporting line thats easy to play and feels great.

Good song from a great album. In fact pick up the Bass book as its a great book to learn from, I did and I'd like to think it help me develop my understanding of rythem supporting the melody.

I learned that one back around 2000. It's a challenging song.
Those position jumps during the verses with that funky syncopation isn't easy for me.
There's also some quick lines leading into the choruses.
I had a lot of fun picking apart the chord changes of that song (mainly the choruses) and appreciating how the bass moves through them. There's good harmony (chords) in that song. I always assumed that was Frusciante's writing. Definately one of my favorite Peppers tunes.
