i dont generally do "clubs" but id consider myself a bit of an Ashbory specialist

The new one's sound cleaner and brighter, but there are different strings on them.
One of my older ones needs a new transducer...only 2 strings sound.
Hi, I'm new to the forums and I wish to join the club - black Ashbory bass received a few days ago straight from LA.
A quick question for experienced Ashbory players.
I've tried the bass on an active cab, one of those you use as a monitor on stage, and it sounded sweet; when I plug it in my GK MB150S, which is great for my double bass, I'm still trying to tweak settings to get a clean & satisfying sound. Any suggestion, anyone using the Ashbory on the GK combo? What settings do you use?
Right now, I'm playing with a little hi boost, contour halfway, flat bass and treble, a little bit more of lo-mid and hi-mid. Everything full open on the bass.

Like the idea of red strings - especially on my black Ash, bit put off by the minimum 10m per order though

I have played Guild Ashborys for twenty years. My two fit in Protec Hard Viola cases. I've had the pickup upgrade. I own and use strings from every era. For two years I gigged with one 2-3 times a week. I play them in an upright position.
As I mentioned previously the pickup on my early Guild isn't working right so it appears it needs a new pickup, what did your pickup upgrade consist of?
Google Ashbory you'll find two sites. One is an English one by one of the Ashbory's designers. He can send you one. Years ago they had a more resiliant G string material you could order.

It appears that Ashworth electronics is no longer active. Not surprising considering Alun Ashworth-Jones passed away in 2008.
I can't seem to find any current info related to the ashbory pickup and Nigel Thornbory.
Edit: I just remembered a guy in PA who deals with Guilds that, IIRC, once had replacement Ashbory pickups. I'll try to contact him.
This will sound really dumb... but... what am I looking at here? Is this a shortscale bass with rubber strings and a body that's as big as a headstock? What does it feel like?
18" scale. Feels like a little bass.
I'll take a number if you please. No pics yet, but mine's red and have had it since 2004 or so.

Audience members crane their necks to see where that sound is coming from. Huge fundamental. Really upright sounding. Can be played easily in tune if I don't look and just play.
