Tolerance, I don't know if you were referring to my post (# 29), but I used Royal blue Rit fabric dye. I dried the strings thoroughly and let them sit for a few hours before putting them on, there was just a little residue on my fingers initially but after a day of playing they held the color and are still colorfast.

I'm newly signed on to the forum, and I'm impatiently awaiting delivery of my Ashbory.

I ordered a black one from Large sound. I'm in Australia. I've been intrigued by the Ashbory since seeing the Guild version advertised in guitar mags back in the way olden days. I had the idea that they were expensive, so I never considered buying one, until I was reminded of them recently and actually took note of the prices. AUD$260 shipped to my door? Sold!

I just ordered some Pahoehoe strings, too.

So, do I get an Ashbory club membership now or do I have to wait till after it's delivered?

I've got a blue one. I use it for recording a lot - it's featured quite a bit on my latest micro tonal ambient album.

Here's a track I used it on. It's a fairly sparse track, so the Ashbory is really exposed and can be heard pretty easily. It kicks in at about the 1:30 mark. (NOTE: this is a micro tonal album, so it's out of tune on purpose.)

@djetz - I'll give you #16 for now; you can post your pic when it arrives. I also bought mine from Large Sound, mainly on a whim. A purchase made when I was still wide awake after watching Saturday Night Live.

#17 Benjamin Strange - Thanks for posting your clip. Sounds great!

I still have the same strings that came with it, which is about a year now. I just make sure to lessen the tension when I'm not playing it. Sure, I need to remember to tune it when I want to use it again, but I still enjoy it. Big sound from a tiny instrument.

A couple posts ago, aquila thundergut strings were mentioned(well..in a quote)...
How do they compare to original strings in terms of cost and are there any other alternatives that work well on ashborys you all know off?
My Ash(red sparkle...) reallly needs re stringing and I was hoping to save a little bit of money.

My Ashbory. I'm loving it.

I've had it a few days now, and I got the Pahoehoe strings the day after the Ashbory arrived, so I put them on.

The Pahoehoes worked OK on the D & G strings, but the E & A strings need lube. So, back to the original strings. Which I've stretched pretty extensively over the last few days, so they've settled down and are now staying approximately in tune.

I'm a bit unhappy that both string types need lube to work. I might try the Aquilas at some future time, for now I'll work with what I've got. (It's mid-30s C heatwave weather here at the moment, so my hands are sweaty.)

I removed the strap button from behind the neck and relocated it to above the output jack. I left the other strap button on the front of the body and attached the other end of the strap to the headstock with a piece of wire, acoustic-style. This immediately made the Ashbory about 100 times more playable. Anyone struggling with balance should try this, it really is a huge improvement. I've ordered a couple of quick-release headstock strap attachment things.

And playing it? It sounds great, and it's huge fun to play. Output is fine for me, I suspect there have been a few undocumented tweaks of the pre-amp over the years, or maybe it's just that the parts are variable, but there is all the output you could want from my Ashbory.

I'm not having that much trouble with intonation. Even at the 12th "fret" I can hit the note pretty much every time. I expect that when the strings settle down completely it'll be even more accurate.

So, yes, I am a happy Ashbory owner.

If you haven't read the whole thread the original case breaks G strings even when just sitting there. I've had no breakage since changing cases.

If anyone is selling a blue or other than black or white Guild, PM me.

The DeArmond strings are nice on the Guilds. I don't use Talc or any lubricant. A little time playing very gently you can get around with out "sticktion":). I've been sweating on them and played in dry cool environments. Don't force them. Gentle touch. Left and Right hands.

I got some silicone-based lube and switched back to the Pahoehoe strings. They do seem to be a lot more stable than the standard strings and a little bit of lube completely fixed the stickiness problem I was having with the lower two strings.

I think I'll stick with the Pahoehoes for now. I do prefer the feel; they're less rubbery and a bit more taut. They don't have the disintegrating G string problem, either, I hear.

Anyone else with an Ashbory try the Thunderguts yet?

I now have access to an Ashbory. I'm a Kala UBass fanatic, and I only use the Thunderguts now. [Awesome tone, nearly instant stability compared to the stocks.]

I put Thunderguts on the Ashbory this weekend, and, wow.

I think these strings can create a whole new rebirth for these Ashborys.
