Yeah it can blow up stuff!
It's more than partially responsible for my BBII going through Bag End and Celestion 8"s. It now has long throw Eminence 150w each LDS 8".
Never used Talc.
Secret practice tip, if you play it in an upright position.
Lay on the couch, sit in a chair, watch a movie, Ashbory headstock on clavicle. It resonates through you.
To each his own.
They do sound quite different so to me they couldn't replace each other.
Oh yeah, the recommended Pahahoehoe strings are the low tension set.

Could NEVER happen to me...I just like the Ashbory.I'm wondering; did Kala license their thing from Ashbory ?
They really are sooo similar in concept.
They are different in feel and sound.
The numerous different string formulations allow more options.
I've found three distinct feels and touches just by switching between the original Guild strings, the Fenders and the Pahahoehoes.

It's the sensitivity of the pickup. A traditional piezo won't do. My tech tried it. Fishman just don't do. There is so little down pressure that their is no to very low output.

Hope it's not for a Guild. If it is tell us. We were half way through a retro fit but stopped. We made good headway. We slotted a bridge so pickups would be interchangeable.
I chose to gig DeArmonds and rest my Guilds.
I love my DeArmond Ashbory that I got for Christmas last year. I've moved one straplock to the bottom, with a quick release thing for the other end - this has made it much easier to hold, but I still prefer playing sat down.
I've also swapped to using Pahoehoe strings. I used the original strings for a week before the D snapped and after looking on a forum or two decided to just get rid. It sounds more like a uBass, but I don't see that as an entirely bad thing, if a little less woody, I can still get a wide variety of tones. Wonderful instruments!

Thought I'd join the club, if you'll have me. Just won an Ashbory bass off the ol' Bay last night. Can't wait to get it here. It's a De Armond, and apparently pretty early as the KC serial number puts her at a January, 1999 build date. On the back of the headstock, in addition to the serial number and De Armond logo is a Guild logo, which I haven't seen in pics before.
Here's a pic from the previous owner.

I have a black DeArmond that I won off the 'Bay. On some nights the Ash is my workhorse, and on some nights it's my jazz bass - it just depends on the venue. Between the Ash and the Jazz, I can really cover a lot of basses (little bass humor). I'd love a number!
Actually pretty soon I will be the owner of two Ashbory basses. A year and a half ago, my Ashbory was stolen from my car. So, for a year I was Ashbory-less. Finally, I gave up and ordered another one on Ebay and have enjoyed getting back into it again. Just before Christmas, I was in a local pawn shop and hanging on the wall was my stolen Ashbory. I worked with the police, and they were able to verify that it was mine and soon I will have two. The stolen one is a Fender, and the current one that I have is a DeArmond. Exact same bass....
