Ashdown and funk...worst enemies?

Hi everybody,

I've got an ABM ashdown combo with a built-in 15" speaker
and I find it hard to get a good fingerstyle funk tone out of it.
How do you set your eq?
Should I get an additional 2x10 cab?
I play a Warwick corvette with EMG's (knobs are volume, volume, tone) and on other amps (mmm markbass...) with
its tone pot turned down and the bridge pickup opened I manage to get a good funk tone most of the times, but the Ash seems good only for rock tones.
Please help me, don't have money to change my rig right now...

If you add a 2x10, you'll find it a marriage made in heaven IMHO. :)

I have the opposite configuration (i.e. 2x10 Combo + 1x15 extension) but, to all intents and purposes, the same thing.

I am heavily involved in playing most of the mid period and later Steely Dan stuff and, for funk/fingerstyle, I think you will find the combination hard to beat.

I certainly do!!:smug: :smug:

Try changing your strings???? I know its nothing to do with your amp but it could help. Eqing a bass with dead strings to achieve any desired tone is hard.

As for EQ i would boost your low mids and keep the bass thick but not muddy. Add a bit of treble if ur into a more Hi-fi sound.

I have an Ashdown ABM 500 RC (evo2 yada yada)... And I've been playing through 2 15" Yamaha PA cabs. They've got the built in tweeters, which offset the lack of treble from the 15's. They can slap like a beast, so I think your main problem here is 15's don't give good pop tone...they slap great, but the D and G string pops don't have the same tone without something with more treble. A 2x10 would probably be perfect, does your 1x15 have a tweeter in it? Also having the tone control rolled off is removing some of that juicy poppy treble, so you might try getting close to your current tone using EQ and the tone control up a bit higher as well
