Ashdown Mag 300 210 - Need opinions

Depends on what you are up against as far as how loud the drummer and guitar(s) are. I was using that combo with a loud guitarist and drummer and it did fine but I ended up adding an Ashdown 1x15 cab to get the full 300 watts of power available. No problems being heard. Lots of head room. Big deep tone. You are only pushing 200 watts without adding an extension cab. Great sounding combo either way.

I've got one, the amp is ok but I find the 2x10 is not enough on it's own for a loud situation. You're going to need more speakers IMO to use this amp in a metal band. It will get very loud and sounds pretty good if you have a big cab you can hook it up to, and you can unplug the internal speakers to do so. It takes a 4 ohm minimum load.

A 100w amp could keep up with the band, but had to be cranked in live shows (fender rumble 100 without old bassist). I think this one should be able to keep up better but not cranked. Also, if I crank the volume to 10 on this amp, would it damage the speakers? (not that I would do this). Thanks for the input Psychotiger.

Sugs,

I have it - and added the 1x15 w/in a week. I play in a Surf/Classic Instro band. Got a guitard running a Orange tube, and another with a Fender 100w twin, add in a heavy-handed drummer - working on him, and a Sax/key player and I'm sitting fat, plumb and happy. Got some stick from the "Twin" that he wasn't "feeling me" so I took it to high noon and started loosening his fillings. Love the tone, love the look, what I'm not loving is having to send it back to Ashdown as its cut out on me during the last two rehearsals. I had some minor early issues - loose fuse holders and other internal issues, but its been perfect until recently. Contacted Ashdown service personnel - TOP NOTCH blokes, all of them.

So, would I still recommend this amp? Yes I would because I really love the tone and how it fits into my bands overall sound. But on the other hand, I also need an amp that will allow me to plug-in with no fear of it going dead on me at the worst possible moment. Bottom-line, I might have drawn a "short straw" with this particular amp, ask me again when I get it back.

I have a stack featuring the MAG 200 210, a second MAG 300 head, and a MAG 1x15 cabinet. I play stereo through both heads, so each is driving one cabinet. I love the tone I get, but it is not the most powerful amp out there. If you're not playing stereo, I recommend adding the 1x15 cabinet to the 210. This also give you flexibility when playing smaller gigs or for rehearsal. I've played through Fenders, Hartkes and Behringers and this to me is a better amp. Well constructed, and well laid out.
