ashdown vs gallien krueger!!!!

I would pay a little bit more and get the GK MB115. I've owned the MB115, as well as the Ashdown t15-250.

The Ashdown is OK, and if it had a tweeter would have been great, but it is way too heavy by today's standards IMO. The GK sounds great, and is very light weight.

Thanks 4-string, i think in the same way

Yikes... Well, let's say that's $450 or thereabouts....

First, I'd buy used gear since you'll get more for you money...

I'd buy an old GK400RB head for $125 (they can be had on ebay or here), leaving me with $325 for a cab. I've seen plenty of nice SWR Goliath cabs going for less than that...

New - You're kind of hosed, and for that $$ I'd have no idea what I'd get.

For actual small gigs - as in parties / coffee houses, you can get away with a little combo amp... but anything bigger than that you get limited in a hurry.

I have the Ashdown Eb 180 and I like it very much, enough for small gigs and if I have the PA support I use the DI which I think is very good. It doesn't have a tweter like the GK I think but that's fine for me (I hate tweeters), and I like better the EQ section.

It seems to be a good advice, but i can't afford it now (or in half a year)
Thanks!

I'd get a GK (and I agree with the MB115 suggestion). Then, I'd add a powered speaker, the new GK powered cab that's coming out, or a 2nd GK MB115 combo later--if I needed more volume.

I have a Roland Cube 100 bass with only 100 watts and a 12 inch speaker. It has a speaker extension output, but I have never used it...I just line out into a powered speaker when I need more.

I do agree though, that if you can afford a separate head/cab, it would be the preferable option.

Go for a GK MB210 combo. Lightweight, you can lift it with one hand. Real GK 350W, enough headroom to play in most situations. Surely if you need more power there be a PA reinforcement, btw, you can add a second cab pushing the power section of this baby to the 500W RMS. 2x10 + horn.
Since I bought it, my GK RB1001-II and my GK NEO212 are in the closet.
