At what point will you stop buying another bass?

Have you reached the point where you can't see yourself buying another bass?

I have now reached a point where I can't see me buying another bass. I have got my dream four string and 5 string basses and whilst I do still window shop at other basses and occasionally get tempted, I doubt if I would really be filling any holes in "my" needs by adding another bass. I play in a few local bands (regularly, pre covid) and don't do a lot of session work and when I do I just use what I have and everything works out fine, occasionally on a studio session I'm asked for a specific tone and I can get that.

Anyone else in the same boat?

It would take a very unusual event for me to buy another bass. Like mine were stolen, run over by a car, burnt up along with my house, destroyed in a car accident, repo’d by the Acme Collection agency, or a safe falling from twenty stories landing on them. Other than that, it’s doubtful I’ll be buying another bass.

At what point will you stop buying another bass?

1) Financial catastrophe
2) Financial requirements force "no more basses" policy
3) Run out of room
4) Quit breathing

My brother-in-law of 31+ years is also a bass player and sometimes we buy 2 basses here so he gets one for his birthday or Christmas present. Wifey understands basses are like the kitchen utensils and devices of which she has many. Correct tool(s) for the task(s) always helps.

For other folks, avoid a partner such as this:

Based on my habitual search for anything from a stupid cheap used deal on a junk bass I can fix up and make into something useful, to a beautiful dream bass I would love to own, to something I should own but don't currently.... I can't stop myself from looking and, sometimes, buying or offering to trade.... and I'll be doing this as long as I'm alive and can still play.
