At what point will you stop buying another bass?

Have you reached the point where you can't see yourself buying another bass?

I went through a serious GAS phase for several years. Eventually the fever broke and I rationalized down to just one bass, one pedal/preamp, one DI, one head and one cabinet. This has been a stable arrangement for many years. That said, during the pandemic I got into playing upright bass (currently borrowing one), and there may need to be an upright bass addition in my future.

I have a decent bass and my wife has a decent short scale. Nothing fancy, just entry level stuff. But it's fine, we don't need anything else.

I keep looking at Craigslist for fun and if I find a $50 bass I might get it so I can experiment with maintenance chores, changing pickups, stuff like that which I won't want to do to my daily driver.

Amen, brother, Amen. What’s the use in having one if you’re not gonna quench that G.A.S.!:smug:
For example this has been giving me G.A. S. ever since I saw it a year ago. I saved it on Reverb and the store that was selling it sent me a message saying they’d take a $100 off since I was a previous customer.

I somehow resisted, but I still have G.A.S. for it.

Uuh what is that??? I instantly want one. This thread is not helpful.

I've been taking the same bass to every gig for going on 30 years now. I have two backups of the same model as my No. 1. I don't really "need" another bass, so I doubt I'll ever shop for another. I may pick one up on a whim out of curiosity, but I won't be shopping for another.

Knowing me like you do, Jazzy... if just the "right one" comes along... well, you know... exceptions can be made.

I'm pretty happy with my current clutch of Dragons. I'm actually considering a Custom guitar build from you-know-who. ;) I actually had a quote done. It's printed out and folded up in my shirt pocket now. I wanted to ponder things for a while. I needed to know where the Finish Line was if I went ahead with it... and now I know. Basses...? Nah. I'm good. Now a guitar... from the bass people? That bears some thought.

I like "shiny new things" but have come to the realization that I've had great basses and sold them looking for something better. I have an excellent passive Carvin PB4 and a recently acquired 1989 Aria Pro II (that's being "gone over" by a locally reputable luthier). If my son tells me he no longer plays the 1986 Alembic Persuader I gave him 4 years ago...I'll give it a good home (and play the heck out of it). Other than that, being retired with not a lot of disposable income, I'm pretty satisfied!

I will keep buying them as long as I'm curious about different combinations of woods, etc.
And I've become seriously addicted to gathering the components separately over many months (I'm a Fender person) and finally putting them together for the big payoff! :hyper::hyper:
I am trying to be better, though... I'll probably be selling a couple soon.
