Early 90's. Originally marketed to be the cheap alternative to the Stingray. They were pulled from the US market in the mid to late 90's and then reintroduced around 2006 or 2007 if i recall correctly.
Can you tell me more about this? Does it sound possible that there would be an un-branded prototype 5-string floating around from March of '04?
Why would someone make a 2004 prototype of a bass that had been in production since mid-1994?
That's one of the questions. There's one for sale on CL, without the Ibanez headstock logo. The number is C441989, indicating 2004 (after 1987, which evidently the ATK series is). The seller isn't making a solid claim, but stabs at it perhaps being a prototype for the Korean models.
That's not a 2004 serial # at all; it's a 1994 serial #. My 300 is one month older that it. Mine's no prototype; they started making them in early '94 to have them shipped to the US and ready to sell by the time the '95 catalogs hit the stores. Also, my headstock logo was partially gone by the time I got it, because they screened it on over the finish. That's probably what happened to that 305.

Maybe I misunderstood the reading of the number then, or went to some poor information. Thanks danomite. So I take it you dig your bass? I'm interested in the 5 because the spacing might be wide enough- I can't play the narrow spacing on many 5s very well. Disorienting...
