Dan knows he'll never hear any gripe from me! I said it somewhere on this board before, but I have specifications written for another five basses I'd have him build for me. If I could afford it, I'd get all five at once. Alas, this may never happen.
Is really is sad to see. If I was touring, I'd want several Atkinsons with me. Even if I wasn't using them in that bad. I'd want them to play on my downtime!

Here is my Atkinson Jay bass that I almost sold due to slight money issue but awful glad I didn't. I don't know if you can tell but had the finish slightly yellowed. Antiquity pups. Sounds and plays great. I'll try to get better pics. Actually Dan has it his gallery I think.

I'm finally using my Atkinson in a band setting. Had it at three or four jams now and I'm loving this thing more than ever. Still working on finding my string for that bass, but I'm still leaning towards the GHS Pressurewounds.
I'll be recording with it soon and come spring, I might be getting ready to take it on the road. So now my problem is, I need a GOOD case for it. I sent a few quotes out to custom companies, but only Maxline Cases responded. They can make me the exact case I want at a decent price (a little more than Gator/SKB cases)... but I just don't want to pay the shipping as it will raise the cost to $450-$500. That's before Customs, of course.
My idea was to have two cutouts: one circular for my strap and picks and one square for a pack of strings or two. It would look kind of like this, just with different cutouts:
Now I must choose from something I can get my hands on through Long & McQuade. I think one of these three could work:

He is still offering basses from time to time, but they are not custom. He will be building basses to his own specifications then selling them on his website/ebay.
One more Atkinson build in the pipeline...and I have tracking...incoming!!! Kind of a special case, hope it qualifies for this august group. Pics when it arrives in a week or so.
I'm in with this great reproduction of an early '70s Precision. It sports an alder body, Fender licensed one piece maple "A" neck from Allparts Japan, Duncan SPB-1 pup, all nitro finish with light relic, vintage tort guard and La Bella flats. Pretty much perfect.

#13, lucky me! She is a sumptuous Seventies siren. I flirted with naming her Farrah but I think Layla is more period-appropriate. Usually I avoid naming basses--she is the exception. I played her on Saturday for my lesson, got compliments from my instructor on rapid progress. Unsure of the degree of correlation, but she is a player as well as a looker. Of course when you are starting from zero, the only way is up!
Great looking bass, ShowLow. I do wonder, though, why Dan added tugbar and ashtray, yet didn't include holes for a pickup cover. Oh, well. It's amazing nonetheless.
Because I built it for myself and I despise pickup covers. But I'm incapable of keeping anything (musical instruments, cars, cameras, wives) for longer than a couple months.
Lucky me!
I must admit to some similarities, though I tend to hang on to wives. Just one so far. Just gave this bass a workout tonight. Sweet. Thanks again Dan.
After owning my Atkinson bass for almost two years, it's finally entering the studio.
I've been using it in my band for a while now and it looks like we've got some releases coming out. Starting mid-April, we should be recording songs for a split 7" with a band from the UK, then shortly after we'll be recording songs for a second split 7" with a band from Russia.
Out of all of the basses I own, this one sounds the best for this genre and through my pedalboard. It's going to be getting a lot of use this year!
Maybe I'll score some parts on the B/S/T section and be able to build a second Atkinson for backup.
