Attaching a cord bag to a Pelican-style case?

Anyone done this?
I have a hard case that fits my pre and amp (neither would work in a rack without wasting a lot of space), but just barely. It would be really helpful to put a cord bag on the outside rather than have to carry "yet another thing".

Ideas?

Drop the pelican etc. in a duffle bag maybe, to suit, and sling it.

Best I can come up with (unless you want to ruin the integrity of the pelican-style case by drilling holes in it - note that I consider "pelican-style" to mean "waterproof when closed" and so I'd consider that a significant degradation in the case's value - if you are extending the use to non-waterproof plastic hard cases, YMMV) is like what Tom Bomb suggests, but a bit more upscale - a cloth case that the pelican-style case fits into with an external cable pocket. Tom's duffle or a tote/messenger bag of some sort may be entirely adequate.

"strap it to the hard case" is easier said than done effectively, especially if you would like to open the hard case without messing with the straps.

Assuming the hard case has parallel sides, it's really not complicated at all.
Soft bag for cables - 2 compression straps - done. And OP said the case holds his pre and amp, so there's no reason why it should need to be opened once it's packed. I know personally, I've never had to open my gig bag between the time it goes into my truck, and it's on stage. If I need to stop for gas, my CC is in my pocket, not my gig bag.

Of course, this is just MHO.
And of course, YMMV, TETO, DWYW, WEFYB....

I'm going to head to a local surplus store and see what they have for either bags that could hold the case, or could be attached to it (I like the carabiners approach).

If you use straps, they will need to be tight to keep from sliding to allow the weight in the bag to hang at the lowest point while carrying the case. I bit of velcro would stop that from happening. As far as that goes, get some industrial strength velcro and put some on one side of the had case and the other side on a soft bag and velcro them together. I've got some seriously sticky velcro I got so long ago I can't recall where it came from, but it will hold a lot of weight. I used it as battery strap latches for trolling motor batteries and it never let me down. I'll see if I can locate what I've got left and hopefully it's still in it's packaging.
