Double Bass Attaching a mic

The tailpiece mount really is great because it's one less thing to carry and one less thing to deal with for setup and teardown. On the other hand with only bass one, I have to take it off the bass for classical gigs (only because I feel it looks silly on there). I wish instead of the thumb screw and nut system that I could find something else that would be quicker and easier to faster and unfasten.

That's what I did, I'd owned the AMT for quite some time before I started getting tired of the fixed cable. This was after sending it back to AMT for a replacement cable. One of the problems that I've run into is that I have to be hyper-careful about packing the mic back into the case, which is prone to pinching the cable in the edges, or more likely, in the handle cutout, where you can't see it. Marty acknowledged that the cases are too small, but that he'd ordered a bunch of them and wasn't planning on replacing them until he used them up. Since the cable is hard wired to the mic, failures are a real PITA.

It's not much of an issue now, as I either play unamped or in bigger venues with the pickup. I may have someone modify it to make the cable removeable at some point, but it's not really front burner right now.

Marcus, I ran into the same problems with my AMT cable and came across this Shure Cable here:

I just got one and it works excellent as a replacement for the stock AMT cable. It's much thicker, and a fraction of the price of what AMT charges for their cables. Also it's much longer so you don't need to have an extra XLR cable handy..

For you players using an Atm35, Atm350 or some similar clip on here is a clamp I stumbled upon in the McMaster Carr catalog. It is made in the UK and is some type of pliable nylon. It ratchets together with teeth and fits snugly on my adjustment wheel. It is very lightweight and is removable and cheap. It also offers quite a bit of flexibility in mic placement. I had to trim the end for the clip on part of the mic to fit properly but that's it. Here are some pics.

I like my system for a GLM 100. But ofcourse that only works for a small mic like that. Just a piece of round foam holding the mike in place.

It walks again by night! (Sorry, just heard that Phil Proctor passed.) Anyway, after the LPCLAW, an H clamp and a Clever Device that I bought from somebody here on TalkBass, I have come full circle and am using the "wrapped in foam, stuffed up between the bridge feet" method again.
