A purse is a small thing that goes inside a handbag. I think a "European Carry-all" is closer to a handbag than a purse. In fact, sometimes its hard to tell the difference to the uncultured eye.

It depends on what you are looking for in a pub. Ie there are pubs where the food is amazing, pubs where the atmosphere is "ye olde" and pubs with a good selection of beers etc. I could probably name my favourites from each category maybe.

You know, you are correct in the handbag/purse distinction, I rarely pay close attention to ladies apparel. So how does one get 'cultured' to spot the difference between a manbag and a handbag? If I drink wine, listen to classical music, lean my head back in a manner that elevates my nose so that I can look down at the world, would that help me see the difference? What if I drove a 'green' car like yours would that help?

The White Lion in Covent Garden would be in there for me - even if only for the memories of the great fun I've had in there.

I've been in many more, but for some reason the names of the best ones are often hard for me to remember. That's the trouble with pub names, they all sound the same. I could find the pubs again no problem, just can't remember what the darn things are called.
