Double Bass attenuator input for AI head ?

Rick from AI think it may a be a good idea to use an attenuator like this http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/MAX10/
I need to turn the input down to 9h to have a natural sound with my Full circle
I just read the thread of the clarus III and Chris Fitzgerald told the same .

Have someone try to use an attenuator ?? to improve the sound

PS For the equalization with the wizzy 10 the most natural sound i find with my full circle p/u : bass 12h mid 9h treble 12h and HPF 11-13h

Interesting, I definitely need the attenuator Rick recommends for any number of condensor mikes which overload the AI without them. But the full circle doesn't seem to present a problem.
 
I think that attenuator would work for the DI output if it was too hot for the PA board, but I'd wonder about its use on the amp's input. Wouldn't that change the input impedance?

I've used that attenuator on the DI output of my old SWR SM400, because there's no level control, and I think on my Clarus' DI output, too...both with success.

First I note the original poster is using the attenuator to "improve" his sound with the full circle not because the signal is too hot. I will have to try that. I am not an engineer but it has always been my impression that the attenutor reduces the signal strength (input level) and would not affect the impedance.
 
Any attenuator has an impedance. An inline XLR attenuator is likely to have a very low input impedance that will not play nice with a piezo.

If the output amplitude of a piezo is too much for a particular amp or preamp input, it can be padded by just putting a capacitor in parallel with the pickup. You could sneak it into the output jack of the pickup, or a spare 1/4" cable just to try out the idea. I suspect that something in the ballpark of 0.01 microfarads might be a good starting point. You can get small poly film capacitors at the Radio Shark.

the idea is that using the input only at 25% (if he input is linear) might overuse the amp section more than necessary and change the sound quality and the flexibility of the equalization. But this idea might be wrong.

nobody seems so use this attenuator ; but Rick from AI neither he just suggest it.
