audio hiccups while recording

ive just recently hooked up the direct out on my bass head to run to my sound card and all is well accept that when im recording and i listen to the finished result, the audio cuts out for a split second randomly throughout the recording like its hiccuping. so i dont know if thats a hardware problem(which it probably is) or just some other minor fix but any help would be appreciated

i got 2 gigs of ram, im just using my integrated sound card(i have an asus m2n SLi deluxe mobo) and im using audacity to record.

im pretty positive its the integrated sound card, but who knows

Sounds like a latency or buffer issue. Or possibly a slow hard drive that can't write data quick enough.

Try some of your options in your Audio Properties, buffer etc.

Your program might have a "configure soundcard" option also.

You might also want to check what your buffer is on your hard drive. Most hard drives you get these days you can get 8MB or 16MB buffers which definitely help when you're writing to them.

^ Yep. Check the audio settings in your software and set your pre-recording buffer to be bigger. Unless you have an extremely old computer it's probably not a hard drive issue. Also make sure you haven't got other programs writing to the disk at the time. Shutting down nonessential software while recording is usually a good idea.

Buffered hard disks don't help when you're doing sustained writes like recording involves.

does anyone know of any other decent recording problems, all ive ever used was Audacity which is fine, dont get me wrong, i just want to try something else.

Flawless for me for 2 years now.
