Audio-Technica IEM question

I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this....

Is anyone familiar with the Audio-Technica M3 IEM System. I was wondering if there is a cheaper ambient mic that can be used instead of the Auidio-Technica AM3 ($99).

I did try some of the radioshack lav mic's and they didn't work.

A couple of CAD condensers set stage left-n-right and fed into the mix worked great though.

I'm going to try that this weekend, but I was looking for a lavalier that would pickup the ambient sound wherever I am standing.

Agreed. I use the M2 with UE Triple Fi's ( a massive upgrade over the AT EP3's that are stock with the M-series). My set up is great, plenty of level at any volume. We've been running just a single dynamic Shure mic and sometimes an EV dynamic on stands behind our PA boxes for room fill. Yes, it is still difficult to sidebar without the crowd knowing the conversation, mostly because the other side of the stage doesn't seem to understand speaking towards that mic will allow them to talk directly into our ears.... Condensers would be smoother sounding too. I have a pair of AT condensers......the 57 and the N/D 457 were just in the back-up stash cord bag and we just keep using them and .....maybe someday. Not sure I want to lose another pair of nice mics to another band i've worked with.
