AudioKinesis Cabs Part VI...

at jam this afternoon we played a minor blues, somewhat latin sounding i guess. rig: 2 hathor 1203s on auralex pad, all switches up, ports open. 800-D with a lot of treble dialed in. 2013 P bass with controls dimed & very low hours set of nickel LO-RIDERS. big, big, bell-like tones!
I've had my Changeling 15 since August, and I'm still really enjoying it. My band always uses sound reinforcement with a professional sound man. I use a Glockenklang BlueSoul with everything set flat, and I do not change the position of the switches: everything is alway up. But, I do change up the port configuration depending on how boomy is the stage. It is amazing the benefit achieved when you plug even one port. When I have an unhappy sound man because of stage boominess, I plug two ports and, voila, happy sound man. I've never had to plug all three ports. The rear firing speakers add a little bit of airiness, but on a loud stage, I really don't notice them all that much. The cabinet can get very loud, remarkably loud given its diminutive stature, but it likes to be on the ground and close to a wall. I could probably get by with a Changeling 12, but the 15 isn't all that difficult to transport, so I'm sticking with it for now. It doesn't have the massive low-end power of my Greenboy 15/6/1 (my choice for outside gigs without sound reinforcement), but it still handles the B-string with sufficient authority and projection. An added benefit, is that Duke is a pleasure to work with.
I wonder how that guy that ended up with the prototype Birdhaus 415 ever made out? I was kind of hoping to hear how that monster worked out on a gig.
It is insanely loud. Unfortunately I haven't had a chance to use it but once on a gig powered by an Orange TB1000. It was vibrating drinks off the shelves.
I have a new reggae ting that will hopefully begin soon, so it will probably get a bit more use.

My steadiest gig from 2012-2017 now only meets every 4-6 months, due to a nearly 2000-mile spread between band members.
Two weeks ago we did an annual May the 4th... party, playing a set of all John Williams compositions.
And, of course, Saturday most places used Cinco de Mayo to draw customers, so we pulled-out the Central/South American stuff for that gig (threw-in some Dick Dale and The Ventures because we didn't have enough "Latin").
We could only fit one 2.5 hour rehearsal for all the material, but things were mostly not bad.
Since the stages were tiny and the keys were amp-less (he usually has a big combo amp), I decided to give the single 1203 a shot. It held-up pretty well next to the kit and a Fender 410 combo.
That weekend I took a Quilter BB800 out for the first time, and the Line Out was used. But for the Cinco show, they disconnected the subs to fit a DJ table on the floor. So I think the 1203 was getting some of the work done. It was loud enough and sounded GREAT on stage, but I probably needed two for more low-end out in the room (or a Changeling 212
).
Anyhow, some lovely randos recorded parts of both shows.

I love this cab.

I've been putting my new Hathor 1203 through it's paces and I'm blown away. I've been playing in a new group that is ridiculously loud (I'm trying to get us to play more quietly) but so far the Hathor has kept up. I play with a number of pedals so the worry is that I will push it too hard and not know that I'm frying it but so far so good. My amp is a Magellan 800 pushing my 8ohm cab with 400 watts. The master is usually about noon and the clean gain about 10-11. Pretty massive for such a small little bugger.
My concern is when I use my octave pedal that the sub frequencies could be too much.I guess we'll have to see.
Anyways, just want to say, again, how much I love this cab.

If I remember correctly, the MG800 has a built in High Pass Filter - I forget where it kicks in. You might check one of those threads on the Genzler equipment or Message Jeff G.
I asked about this awhile back in the Genzler thread.
Per Jeff, the HPF on the clean channel is "in the 30 Hz range and is a steep 24 dB slope." On the drive channel, the HPF frequency (which starts off higher than on the clean channel) rises as drive is increased. You can read Jeff's full answer here.

I just need to decide if I go for the regular version, or the new Tall version (!!!)

As for venti vs. grande (or however that works), this might sound silly, but, if you have a cardboard box of about the right size (and you could adjust height with stacked books, other boxes, etc.), you could "mock up" the stack and see how you relate to it. (Don't forget to check measurements with your car, if that's an issue.) Whether you run the cabs stacked one atop the other or side-by-side might affect your decision, too.
I'm sure it will be a potent rig, either way -- enjoy! Report back when you've had some time to get to know it.

i do a stereo hathor rig for certain things. when i get the scratch, i’d like to get another changeling 12 tall to do that in stereo.
Working on a solo bass project. Should have some audio soon.
I want to reproduce live the same kind of 3D sound (from my Timeline and BigSky pedals)
that I hear thru headphones.
Have no regular band, but I do have to play once in a while with other people : a single TC115 will be more than enough for those occasions !

Duke, at my last gig (a 4 year theatre gig) our sound tech (who is very good) always mic'd my cabs. If I remember correctly, he use two or three different mics. He always had it located about midway in the cone (inner to outer).
We always got great results and many compliments.
I was fortunate enough to hear my rig when I let guest bassists use it. It always sounded great!

played some fusiony stuff this evening with real good guitar player. one of the things was Blue Wind ( yeah, to me that's fusiony, LOL. ) i played the guitar intro, the head, on my P through the Hathors ( i saw Tal Wilkenfeld do that - mine was not as slamming as hers. ) i used to play with this guy a lot, but not since i got the 1203s, and he was knocked out by that AK magic!! dimed P bass, all switches go, lo-rider nickels, heavy double stop plucking.
