Having grown up in an alcoholic home I tend to have radar to detect people with substance abuse problems early on. Once you've spotted it get out ASAP. Chalk up any time and $ lost to experience, though try to keep your monetary commitment to a minimum. Stay out of shared equipment etc.
You may also substitute "Having worked as an employer and/or supervisor...".
If you have even the slightest hunch you're dealing with drug and/or alcohol abusers, you're probably spot-on.
