Auralex Gramma + Amp Stand for an apartment?

First of all why do you have to have anything approaching performance volume in your apartment? Seems like a good way to draw unnecessary attention to you and your possessions, if you ask me.

I have found the GK MB200 to be a wonderful headphone amp and a very capable backup amp that is light as a feather.

I looked into doing that but had read somewhere else that the head still needs a speaker load to function; the DI out is only an option if the head is still plugged into the speaker.

I am surprised to hear that. That is usually only true of all tube amplifiers. I would check with Mesa on that.

Also, I recommend using your DI out into a mixer. You can probably do this with the master volume off. There will be times when you will need to use the DI into FOH. You might as well get used to the ins-and-outs of using it now.

Good news everyone!

I did some experimenting. I have a Native Instruments Komplete audio 6 and a DI cable. I hooked everything up and powered up my interface - I had signal, but I was also hearing bass through my amp. As I turned the master lower it didn't matter what I did with the DI level - my signal got weaker

Then I remembered that this Mesa Walkabout head is plugged into the cab (duh!?) so what if I unplugged the cab from the head and ran the head by itself via DI into my audio interface?

Success!

Everything sounds crystal clear but warm and fat. I've got more gain than the interface could ever handle and it's all good!

I can't believe I didn't try this sooner. To anyone out there with this setup, you can run the head unplugged from the cab via DI out to a mini-mixer, audio interface, etc..
