Double Bass Aussie made EUB. It's beautiful...

Invalid Link Removed.

(Hope the link works)

I have played this upright, and it is the best of its kind I've ever played.
The site contains audio/video of the instrument.

That is a beautiful instrument. For some reason the audio/video links on their website don't seem to be live, is it just me? Is there a ballpark price? What pickup are they using?

Rick

I believe that Ian used a microphone purely for the sound it puts out acoustically. I'm waiting for a return email from Noyce regarding the pickup system. The price for one of these is around $9000AU, and are hand made to order. He currenty has two on the go. Because generally he works alone, they take him up to 6 months to build.

I had a better look around on his web site. The price displayed is $9850AU and he's using "The Realist" pickup.
This link shows its specs, price etc.

Here's some more about the bass from the site:

The Noyce & Howell Semi-Acoustic Double Bass is collapsible for travel
purposes. There is no need to remove the strings when dismantling the
bass, as it is the tailpiece that is removed with the strings attached. The neck is screw/bolted on and fits snugly in its own socket.

A remarkable feature of the Noyce & Howell Semi-Acoustic Double Bass is that it can be played as an acoustic double bass by a simple blend of the natural acoustic sound with the low frequencies from a bass amplifier. Ideal for the touring bassplayer who has a gig or a session where an acoustic double bass is called for.

The few Noyce guitars & basses I've seen have been beautifully made, so it's no surprise that this is a fine piece of work.

If the price is out of your range, Bill Paulin has been making some much simpler, cheaper solid-body EUB's. I have his prototype ( Link Removed ) but he's refined the design somewhat since mine was made, and I think he's still selling them for under $2000 AUD.

Bill's also in Australia - in Jimboomba, outside Brisbane.

indeed!:) it is a beautiful instrument!and custom made for you? it's definately worth the wait. the sound is really clear. I love the tone. (the site does quite well.) whatever you paid for it you should be quite satisfied. you have what fits you. Looking at the finish and the shape I see the idea of the dolphin. ;) haven't seen anything like it here in the US.:)
