From my limited understanding, Australia has long had an economic policy favoring "dirty deeds, done dirt cheap".

I can vouch for that. It can get pretty grubby along Canterbury Road some nights.

No way, this is not true.
I've seen enough episodes of the Crocodile Hunter to know that nothing is dirty in Australia. It is a beautiful clean country with blue waters and crocodiles everywhere.

Just driving up my Driveway i have to sound the horn to move aside Kangaroos, Wallabies and Koala, then fight my way past the Crocs and snakes just to get my beer in the fridge and the shrimp on the Barbie.

Obviously - when all the people emigrated to Australia, from Britain after WWII, they took all the smog with them!
