Australia - world's filthiest country

5 star accommodation flying into South Africa
Reality - Melbourne City.
The only one in the thread that's exempt of BS is the opening poster. New Zealand is super clean. USA need not even comment. LA is like a sewer and as for the UK, well need any comment be made, just check the dental history. British hide their money under their soap. As for the news article, South Africa is hardly a place that should start throwing rocks.
High carbon emissions may be true. Australia a filthy place hardly. New Zealand is probably the only place cleaner I can think of at the minute. To call Oz a filthy place is total BS.

Having lived in Melbourne for 12 years, I can safely say that that photo was taken on the 1 day they have like that per year! Haha - its my favourite city in Australia by a long shot, but it NEVER looks like that!

Latimour, I'm starting to wonder if you really ever did live here. Much of what you say is typically inaccurate. If you don't like Australia why don't you just say so instead of giving people on here misleading information. If you lived here 12 years you should know better.
The weather here has been EXACTLY like that all week and much of the last months. Yes I spend most of my working day in the city and around. The sky is clear blue most of the time. If it's grey, they are a what most people know as clouds. Every time i've been to Sydney, Adelaide and Brisbane it's the same. We have water shortages, lack of rain but Melbourne is never sunny. Go figure.
My point is Aus is a relatively very clean place. Not that Melbourne has perfect weather. But as usually you make all efforts to sidetrack the point and slag off Aus in what ever way possible.
Maybe read up on the difference between weather with pollution.
I've spent a lot of time in every capital city of Australia with exception of Perth and the Darwin and not one single city is anything like what is made out here. Not one. I'm sure given what people say, Pert and NT is also very clear of air pollution in comparison to other cities. I suppose the gold coast and surfers paradise are average also.
The only "special photos" I've seen that depict Melbourne with a smog sky is when there are bush fires.
My comments on LA is not a dig at people there. When I first flew into LA it was a big shock to see so much air pollution. It is what it is. I don't dislike LA, just the air. The price of big population.

Hey roon, you know there's always syd vs melb but imo i like both for different reasons. Living in double bay would hardly suck and that's why many very wealthy people from all over the world CHOOSE to buy there. In general i like sydney and i've never witnessed air pollution there either.
I guess that's why byron bay, coogee and bondi are all dirty dirty places that attract millions of tourists a year just for the beaches alone.
Sydney and Melbourne are world famous for being smog capitals.

When I visited Melbourne, I must say, I've never seen anywhere so clean. It's several orders of magnitude cleaner than anywhere else I've been - the US, the UK, and almost anywhere in Europe (with the possible exception of Sweden, which is pristine). The streets were not strewn with rubbish, the buildings were clean, the water tasted good straight out of the tap, and the air (which is what we're talking about here) was the cleanest I've ever experienced in a city. Unlike London, New York or most of the other places I've been, at no point did I blow my nose, and see black snot in my hanky.
There's a lot of convincing evidence here that makes me rethink that list. Unfortunately, I've already had 250 shirts made up with this on the front in medium font: "Australia - World's Filthiest Country" and I think they'll sell like hotcakes!!

Except Australia does emit one of the highest carbon emissions per capita. Doesn't take a genius to admit or realise that.
No debate there!, dumbass's here would rather burn coal producing 5 times the 02 than go nuke. The chances of nuke problems these days is pretty safe given the better levels of control etc.
It's only the waste that needs working out. We do have some time to do that though. Starting to fix the problem by going nuke sounds like a good plan. Running cars on natural gas and lpg's another start, even better get those bloody hydrogen cars happening. Honda now sell them that run on both unleaded and hydrogen as of this year so i'm told.
I don't know about the country itself, but I've met some downright filthy Australian girls, bless their little hearts.

Lets look at a very rough guide to total pollution using the figures in the link:
Australia: Population approx 21,000,000. CO2 per capita = 27.2 tonnes per person per year.
Total CO2 emitted per year: 544,000,000 tonnes of CO2 per year/
Yuck, we are filthy.
But wait, there's still more:
USA: Population ~ 300,000,000. CO2 per capita = 21.4 tonnes per person per year.
Total CO2 emitted per year: 6,420,000,000 tonnes per year or roughly 1180% more than Australia.
Australia is killing the world, yeah right!
